About the Château La Tour du Roche Milon 1962, Pauillac AOC
A genuine, once-in-a-lifetime bottle for Christmas -- great value, rare 1962 Bordeaux. From a family-owned château in the commune of Pauillac, one of the most famed terroir in Bordeaux. To the north of the little village of Saint-Lambert, the Château Fonbadet vineyard boasts a choice location, amidst the most reputed estates of the Pauillac Appellation, Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Lynch Bages, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande and Château Pichon Baron de Longueville. The 20-hectare vineyard of Château Fonbadet is planted with the traditional Médoc grape varieties: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot and an additional 5% Petit Verdot and Malbec. The territory of Pauillac as we know it today was created when two former parishes, Saint-Martin de Pauillac and Saint Lambert de Rignac, whose respective lords were Lafite et Latour, were joined together. The wines from these two parishes have always ranked among the elite of Bordeaux Médoc growths, from the middle ages to the present day, whether they were domain wines or parish wines. The wine was cellared in sealed wooden boxes at the château. The labels are, of course, showing age but the level and flavour of the wine is excellent. Gentleness is required when uncorking.
