1. Rila Monastery Rila
The Monastery of Saint Ivan of Rila, better known as the Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria. It is situated in the southwestern Rila Mountains, 117 km south of the capital Sofia in the deep valley of the Rilska River at an elevation of 1,147 m above sea level, inside of Rila Monastery Nature Park. The monastery is named after its founder, the hermit Ivan of Rila , and houses around 60 monks. Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments and is a key tourist attraction for both Bulgaria and Southern Europe. In 2008 alone, it attracted 900,000 visitors. The monastery is depicted on the reverse of the 1 lev banknote, issued in 1999.

Rila is a mountain range in southwestern Bulgaria and the highest mountain range of Bulgaria and the Balkans, with its highest peak being Musala at 2,925 m. The massif is also the sixth highest mountain in Europe , coming after the Caucasus, the Alps, Sierra Nevada, the Pyrenees and Mount Etna, and the highest between the Alps and the Caucasus. 4. Belmeken Dam Rila
The Belmeken dam is situated in the Rila Mountains in Bulgaria and is the highest reservoir on the Balkan peninsula. There is a pumped-storage plant the Chaira Hydro Power Plant built between the lake and a lower basin. Part of the water stored in the lake is cycled back and forth through the pumped storage turbines, while the lakes outflow drains through tunnels to the Sestrimo Hydro Power Plant.

The Rozhen Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God is the biggest monastery in the Pirin Mountains in southwestern Bulgaria, nestled in the Melnik Earth Pyramids. The city center is the best place to start on your sightseeing hunt and covers a good amount of the best things to do and what to see in Sofia.
Bulgarian food is incredible, but our priority was the traditional Bulgarian breakfast for the purpose of this vlog! Bulgaria has some delicious cuisine, but any country that eats dessert for breakfast is high on our list of things we have to try! Mekitsa in Sofia was a must taste! They call it food, we call it dessert :)
Bulgaria is an easy place to make a travel vlog, city centers like in Sophia make our job easy with deciding what to see. For the most part, the city offers incredible buildings, churches, ancient ruins and age old structures. To really tackle the larger things to do in Sofia you probably need to get out of the city and venture deeper into Bulgaria as a whole. In upcoming travel vlogs we'll also show the other main attractions a few hours away, known as top sightseeing stops, to add some contrast to the concrete of the city along with more food where we can.

It's better if you check the traveler's reviews online, just in case you're looking for something different. Anyway, it's always good to know other people's opinions and suggestions.
5. Don’t Pack Too Much
You’ll want to leave some extra room. Bulgaria is full of markets and you’ll definitely want to take home, from handcrafted pottery to handmade jewelry. They also have amazing art galleries by some of the country’s most talented artists.
6. Don’t Confuse the Nod
In Bulgaria, they nod differently. For “yes,” they shake their head from side to side. And for “no,” they nod their head once upward. If you’re not aware of this, you might actually be saying no when you really mean yes!
7. Don’t Criticize Their Food
In Bulgaria, they love their traditional dishes (Visual: Musaka), and they want their guests to enjoy the food, too. If you’re not particularly fond of what’s on your plate, remain courteous, and chow down anyway. You don’t want to turn someone off and come across as an inconsiderate traveler.
8. Don’t Drink in Public in Varna
If you head out to the port city of Varna, be aware that there is a ban on drinking in public. Due to an increase in inebriated tourists, the mayor felt the need to prohibit drinking in gardens, alleyways, and parks.
9. Don’t Stop at Stop Signs
Okay, okay, this is a bit of an old one. Locals of Bulgaria used to take Stop signs very lightly, more of an suggestion than a rule. But times have changed and drivers have improved, although it doesn't hurt to be extra wary when faced with one of these signs.
10. Don’t Visit Without Brushing Up on Their History
They have a lot of pride in their country, and they know the ins and outs of the ancient Bulgarian kings and the discoveries that were made in the country centuries ago. If you want to impress them, brush up on some Bulgarian history beforehand.
