ANTEQUERA, SPAIN - travel shorts
Antequera is hugely rich in history, culture and heritage, and inhabited since the Bronze Age, there are some amazing monuments to be found everywhere: tombs which date back to 2,500 BC, the national park of El Torcal with its unique limestone formations, Roman baths, Baroque churches and Renaissance palaces and a 13th Century Moorish castle, remain to pay tribute to the strategic importance of Antequera in days gone by.
The town, and to the north the fertile plains of the valley, are overlooked by an almost vertical, 800 metre high, limestone rock, La Peña de los Enamorados, The Lovers' Rock, where local legend has it that two young lovers, a Christian man and a Moorish woman, jumped to their death rather than deny their forbidden love
Antequera is commonly known as the 'crossroads of Andalucia' because of it's excellent location in the heart of the region. With excellent forms of communication by road, air and most recently high speed train it allows fast and easy connections locally, nationally and internationally. Located in the province of Malaga and on the motorway junction of the A92 and A45 the main cities of Andalucia, Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba and Malaga are not far away. The airports of Malaga and Granada are within 50 minutes of the town and with the addition of a new high speed train link in Santa Ana the capital of Madrid is now within easy reach.
Monterey California, USA, Travel Guide
Monterey is a city in the U.S. state of California, on the southern edge of Monterey Bay on California's Central Coast. It stands at an elevation of 26 feet (8 m) above sea level,[8] on a land area of 8.466 sq mi (21.93 km2). The 2010 census recorded a population of 27,810.
Monterey was the capital of Alta California under both Spain and Mexico. It was the only port of entry for taxable goods in California. In 1846, the U.S. flag was raised over the Customs House, and California became part of the United States after the Mexican–American War.
The city had California's first theater, public building, public library, publicly funded school, printing press, and newspaper. The city and surrounding area have attracted artists since the late 19th century and many celebrated painters and writers have lived there. Until the 1950s, there was an abundant fishery.
Among Monterey's notable present-day attractions are the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf and the annual Monterey Jazz Festival.

Arenal hanging bridges and Fortuna (Costa Rica)
The Arenal Volcano, in Spanish Volcán Arenal, is an active andesitic stratovolcano in north-western Costa Rica (10.5N, 84.7W), around 90 km north-west of San José, in the province of Alajuela. Recognised as a volcano since the 19th century, it was known by foreign investigators as Volcan Costa Rica, Rio Frio, Canastos Volcano and Cerro de los Guatusos. Arenal is the youngest and most active of all the mountains in Costa Rica. Scientists have been able to date it back to more than 4000 years ago. The area remained largely unexplored until 1937, when a documented expedition took place to reach the summit.
Once locally known as Cerro Arenal (i.e. Mount Arenal) it was presumed extinct until July 29, 1968 when an earthquake caused it to erupt, after approximately 400 years of dormancy. The eruption wiped out the town of Arenal and killed 87 people [1]. It lasted for several days, and during that time destroyed crops, property, livestock, and forests. 15 square kilometers were buried and the explosion affected over 232 square kilometers. The eruption caused three new and active craters to form. Before the eruption, there was a wide veriety of plant and wildlife on the mountain. It has been active since the explosion and can be reported to have minor eruptions every 5-10 minutes.
Arenal rises 1657 metres above sea level and overlooks Lake Arenal; both are part of Arenal Volcano National Park. The country's most active volcano, Arenal's eruptions are strombolian in type, being frequent but moderate and can be viewed without danger as long as the viewers are behind the safety perimeter. This constant activity and minimal endangerment makes Arenal a popular tourist destination, especially at night (See image), because the lava and incandescent rocks make a spectacular sight. The last major eruption of Arenal occurred on August 23, 2000. Most of the time, the volcano is surrounded by clouds near the tip, and it is touted as good luck to see the whole volcano without clouds. The volcano heats several hot springs nearby, including Tabacon, a popular tourist destination.
This is one of seven historically active Costa Rican volcanoes: Poás, Irazú, Miravalles, Orosí, Rincón de la Vieja [complex], and Turrialba.
Arenal Volcano National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal) is a Costan Rican national park in the central part of the country, forming the Arenal Tilaran Conservation Area. The park encompasses the Arenal Volcano the most active in the country, which had previously been believed to be dormant until a major eruption in 1968. It neighbours Lake Arenal which is the site of the country's largest hydroelectricity project, the Lake Arenal Dam.
The park also contains a second volcano, Chato, whose crater contains a lagoon, it is also called Cerro Chato (literally Mount Chato) as it has been inactive for around 3500 years--coinciding with the creation and growth of Arenal itself.
The site has accommodation in the form of the Arenal Observatory Lodge and also the Museum of Vulcanicity, as well as a ranger station.

TRANSCRIPT
We’re going to take a safari boat ride today down the Penas Blancas river. It’s only a 20 minute drive from Arenal and La Fortuna so this is a great tour for those who are short on time or with families because you get to see a lot of different wildlife. This tour is offered by Jacamar Naturalist Tours, who we’re going to go with so we’re going to show you the tour so let’s go.
Our guides are taking off all the rafts and this is like a local house and the river is right over there so we’re going to go over there and start the tour.
Alright so this is our boat and we have our lovely guide Hugo who’s going to guide us down the river. Ready for it? Let’s go.
This is the Penas Blancas river and what we’re going to see today, well nature is very unpredictable but hopefully some monkeys, sloths and birds. Nature always has something important for us to show so hopefully today will be the day. We’re in the Arenal area and La Fortuna which is like twenty minutes from La Fortuna and specifically the northern region of the Caribbean side of Costa Rica so we’re by Arenal Volcano. Hope we can find some animals this morning and it’s a beautiful morning.
The scenery in the river is really pretty, as you can see like the reflection of the trees in the water, it’s super clean, it’s really green. It’s just a gorgeous river to come and watch wildlife, you feel like you’re in like Jurassic Park almost.
The tour ends up at this local family’s house where we’re going to have some snacks and some drinks. The tour was really nice we saw a lot of good wildlife, it was a great day so it was a really awesome tour to see wildlife really close to La Fortuna and Arenal, if you guys want more information about the tour just click on the links below.

Cruising The San Antonio Texas River Walk (Paseo del Rio) In A Tour Boat
I shot this video with a handheld camera during a visit to San Antonio in June 2013. The city is most famous as the home of the Alamo, but in recent decades has also become known as a great tourist destination. One of the unique and most charming features in the downtown area is the River Walk (also known in Spanish as Paseo del Rio). And one of the most fun things to do on the RiverWalk is take a tour boat cruise.
The boats, which are really more like small barges, can carry 30-40 passengers at a time and hit all the most interesting sites along the river.
If possible, I'd recommend going in early spring or late fall when temperatures are more agreeable. Summertime temps are consistently in the 90s.
An interview with José Carlos García - Gastronomy in Malaga
José Carlos García is no stranger to world class cuisine. He opened his newest restaurant JCG, in Malaga's Muelle Uno, the new luxury port area. Within a year of opening, JCG had already earned a Michelin star. He previously ran another Michelin-starred restaurant, Cafe de Paris.
Our reporter was lucky enough to secure an interview with this renowned Michelin-star chef.
