Places to see in ( Sarlat - France )
Sarlat-la-Canéda is a medieval town in southwest France's Dordogne department. Its central Sainte-Marie Church, redesigned by architect Jean Nouvel, hosts an indoor food market, and a glass elevator in the bell tower offers city views. Sarlat Market sells local delicacies like foie gras and cheese. To the south, close to the Cathédrale Saint-Sacerdos de Sarlat, stands the bullet-shaped Lanterne des Morts tower.
Sarlat - Now we're talking! The most famous town in the region and one of the most renowned and visited in France. It is also one of the most attractive. Often called just Sarlat, the town is actually twinned with its less famous neighbour and is more correctly called Sarlat le Caneda.
Sarlat is in the region called the Perigord Noir in the Sout West of France. Destined to be besieged by tourists at almost all times of the year Sarlat is a beautiful, well restored town a few kilometres north of the River Dordogne. The old town, dating from both medieval and renaissance times is a pleasure to visit, especially during the spring and autumn, or early in the morning. If you can catch the early morning sunshine on the yellow sandstone buildings, so much the better.
The cathedral was originally the church of Sarlat Abbey. Over the centuries it has been added to and transformed and is now a mix of Roman, Gothic and other styles. The cour du cloitre and the nearby cour des fontaines and the cour des chanoines were all originally part of the abbey. The jardin des Enfeus just above the cathedral is the ancient abbey cemetary and there are several sarcophagus and 'enfeus'(enfeus are tombs that are built into the church wall).
Opposite the cathedral on the Place du Peyrou is the splendid 'Hôtel de La Boétie', birthplace of the philosopher and humanist Etienne de La Boétie. His house has a large arched entrance and Renaissance style mullioned windows.
Crossing the Rue de la Republique to the west side of town take a look at the Hotel St Clar with its wonderful turret tower and see the Tour du Bourreau and the last remaining part of the ramparts. Wander northwards past the convent of Ste Claire and the Chapel of the Penitents Blancs with its huge Baroque doorway.
Crossing back over the Rue de la Republique walk down the Rue des Consuls. This road is one of the highlights of Sarlat and contains a number of very impressive mansions. There is the 16th century Hotel de Mirandol with its imposing doorway, the 14th century Hotel Plamon with its three arched windows. The floor above with its mullion windows was added a century later. The Hotel de Vassal was built in the 15th century and has a double turret and the Hotel Tapinois de Betou has a monumental staircase. Wandering along the street taking in all the different details of windows and doors and roofs is a pleasure.

Places to see in ( Sarlat - France ) Chateau de Puymartin
The Château de Puymartin is a castle in the commune of Marquay, in the Dordogne département of France, located between Sarlat (8 km) and Les Eyzies (11 km). The castle was built during the 13th century. It was taken by the English in 1357.[1] The consuls of Sarlat bought the domaine back from the English but then abandoned the castle.
Radulphe de Saint-Clar re-purchased it in 1450 and enlarged it. During the 16th century, Raymond de Saint-Clar defeated the Protestants during the French Wars of Religion. Under the name of Capitaine de Puymartin, he expelled the Huguenots from Sarlat.
During the 18th century, Jean de Saint-Clar contended with his sister Suzanne for possession of the castle. Suzanne won and kept Puymartin. The castle was finally abandoned during the 18th century. During the 19th century, the marquis of Carbonnier de Marzac restored the castle in a neo-gothic style. Château de Puymartin is listed as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture.

Rue Cler in Paris
A visit to the rue Cler in Paris, a pedestrian market street in the Seventh district of Paris that is famous mainly because of Rick Steves, an American travel writer who sings its praises in his travel guides.
There are many market streets in Paris, including streets far more interesting than this one, but this one gets the most press, so I've made a short video about it.
For a look at a market street in Paris that makes the rue Cler look comatose, see this video

Assisi, Italy: Burt Wolf Travels & Traditions (#608)
BURT WOLF: TRAVELS & TRADITIONS - ASSISI, ITALY (#608)
The town of Assisi, in the center of Italy, was built on a hill that has been inhabited for about 4,000 years, and for almost as long it has been a religious center. They say that the stones that were used to build Assisi have absorbed the prayers of the millions of pilgrims that have come there over the centuries. And now, it is believed that the stones radiate a sense of peace and quiet that has a spiritual effect on visitors. Burt Wolf tours the city, discovers the true story of the life of St. Francis and the founding of the Franciscan order, visits the sites sacred to St.Clare, explains the art in the Basilica of St. Francis, where the Italian Renaissance was born, and traces the creation of the Nativity scene.

Rue Moreau is also Rue des Ursulines in Paris Saint-Denis, France. The nuns were killed and the place made a storehouse in the first French Revolution in the 18th century. There is a good museum in Saint-Denis with plenty from the third French Revolution, La Commune. We are on the border of Paris.
