Visit to the Marché d'Aligre [Outdoor Market in Paris]
A brief visit to the outside portion of the Marché d'Aligre public market in Paris, France.
This outdoor market is mentioned in a number of tourist guides, although it is very similar to most other open markets in Paris.
I've only covered the outside of the market, which contains mostly fresh produce and a flea market. The inside part (inside a market building visible from the outside in the video) sells other things, especially perishable foodstuffs like meat, fish, and dairy products.
During the holidays, the Marché d'Aligre is always buzzing with Parisian buying fresh food! No wonder French women don't get fat!

Places to see in ( Paris - France ) Palais de Chaillot
Places to see in ( Paris - France ) Palais de Chaillot
The Palais de Chaillot is a building in the Trocadéro area in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. For the Exposition Internationale of 1937, the old Palais du Trocadéro was demolished and replaced by the Palais de Chaillot which now tops the hill. It was designed in classicizing moderne style by architects Louis-Hippolyte Boileau, Jacques Carlu and Léon Azéma. Like the old palais, the palais de Chaillot features two wings shaped to form a wide arc: indeed, these wings were built on the foundations of those of the former building. However, unlike the old palais, the wings are independent buildings and there is no central element to connect them: instead, a wide esplanade leaves an open view from the place du Trocadéro to the Eiffel Tower and beyond.
The buildings are decorated with quotations by Paul Valéry, and sculptural groups at the attic level by Raymond Delamarre, Carlo Sarrabezolles and Alfred Bottiau. The eight gilded figures on the terrace of the Rights of Man are attributed to the sculptors Alexandre Descatoire, Marcel Gimond, Jean Paris dit Pryas, Paul Cornet, Lucien Brasseur, Robert Couturier, Paul Niclausse, and Félix-Alexandre Desruelles.
The buildings now house a number of museums:
the Musée national de la Marine (naval museum) and the Musée de l'Homme (ethnology) in the southern (Passy) wing,
the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine, including the Musée national des Monuments Français, in the eastern (Paris) wing, from which one also enters the Théâtre national de Chaillot, a theater below the esplanade.
It was on the front terrace of the palace that Adolf Hitler was pictured during his short tour of the city in 1940, with the Eiffel Tower in the background. This became an iconic image of the Second World War. It is in the Palais de Chaillot that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948. This event is now commemorated by a stone, and the esplanade is known as the esplanade des droits de l'homme (esplanade of human rights). The Palais de Chaillot was also the initial headquarters of NATO, while the Palais de l'OTAN (now Université Paris Dauphine) was being built.

Breakfast at Angelina. The best spot in Paris to relive the Belle Epoque charm.
No visit to Paris is complete without enjoying breakfast at Angelina’s. Angelina replicates all of the original’s Belle Epoque charm, with mosaic floors, ornate mirrors, and soft lighting. Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn were among the well known patrons of Angelina. The luxurious interior, complete with gold trim, whimsical murals and sumptuous art nouveau lines, was designed by Édouard-Jean Niermans. It is truly the best breakfast spot in Paris! A glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, a cup of coffee with creme, a basket of croissants, pains au chocolat and pains aux raisins--all buttery and delightful, tartine with apricot jam, chestnut spread, butter and honey and more...is all you need to brighten your morning.

Nice, France downtown
Nice, in the French Riviera, has a wonderful downtown that is worth spending time in, exploring Nice’ s main commercial Street, Avenue Jean Medicin, stretching about 10 blocks from Place Massena north to the train station and packed with many boutiques and anchored at the lower end by the large department store, Galleries Lafayette. It's really quite wonderful to see how this Main Street is been transformed in recent years by the tram all the automobiles of been removed except service vehicles sidewalks whitened now it's a great place for pedestrians and bicycles and people in the and the tram running down the middle. When locals are referring to the street they don't even call it other news on meds seem the just say the Avenue because it's by far the primary shopping street of Nice.
The east side of downtown is also an interesting place to walk around, a busy commercial area, not so much pedestrian zones but you've got lively streets and shops everywhere, sidewalk cafés, views back at Notre Dame. As you walk along you even get a view of the national theater, a large modern building, and other side streets that wind around it's a great place to explore.
On the west side are several nice pedestrian streets for shopping and eating: Rue Massena and the more upscale Rue Paradis, with luxury shops like Cartier, Armani, Louis Vuitton and Hermes. What do you desire? Shoes, scarves, designer clothes, olive oil, wine, cheese, records, guide books, perfumes, soaps, lotions, kitchen utensils, local foods and all the usual souvenirs are here.
There is a relatively new tram system in Nice it goes right down the main boulevard which is been converted from an automobile street into a tram and pedestrian and bicycle straight it's a marvelous place.
This tram service connects practically now from the beach to the train station which makes it very easy to get from one end of town to the other. So it’s really not too critical that you stay at a hotel down by the waterfront but of course it is more pleasant to be down by the shore. The tram is convenient because it's right at street level so it's easy to just walk right on and there stops every few blocks so it's easy to catch and trance like this and become quite popular once again in Europe but sort of a rebirth of an old idea. Riding along on this new tram is a very smooth experience that tracks are still quite level so you have a nice view of downtown passing by to look at the Windows.
There's a wonderful Matisse Museum located in a park slightly away from the center of town, a little too far to walk to, but you can easily reach it by public bus or just take a taxi. Matisse lived in the city of Nice for many years and created some of his finest paintings here. You might be able to visualize some of those scenes that were painted from his room looking out onto the beautiful blue sea, with the bright colors of the south of France and Provence.
A Walk Around Saint-Germain-des-Pres', Paris
Saint-Germain-des-Prés is one of the four administrative quarters of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, France, located around the church of the former Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Its official borders are the River Seine on the north, the rue des Saints-Pères on the west, between the rue de Seine and rue Mazarine on the east, and the rue du Four on the south. Residents of the quarter are known as Germanopratins.
The quarter has several famous cafés, including Les Deux Magots, Café de Flore, le Procope, and the Brasserie Lipp, and a large number of bookstores and publishing houses. In the 1940s and 1950s, it was the centre of the existentialist movement (associated with Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir). It is also home to the École des Beaux-Arts, the famed school of fine arts, and the Musée national Eugène Delacroix, in the former apartment and studio of painter Eugène Delacroix.

South of France Video Tour: Montpellier, Part 1
In this video tour, David Hill of New York Habitat ( explores France's thriving city Montpellier! Montpellier is located in the South of France, near the Mediterranean Sea. Because of this, Montpellier is usually thought of as summer holiday destination. Although Montpellier is definitely worth visiting in summertime, the city is also a great place to visit in the cooler months, because of its lovely mild climate.
Montpellier has been the fastest growing city in France over the past 25 years, and is now the 8th largest city of the country. Furthermore, it's the 3rd largest French city on the Mediterranean coast, after Marseille and Nice. Montpellier is a fantastic shopping destination, and also a cultural hotspot.
Place de la Comédie
The tour starts at Montpellier's famous square the Place de la Comédie, which is often considered to be the heart of the city. The square dates back to before 1755, and is surrounded by beautiful building such as the Opéra Comédie, which houses the city's famous opera company. On the square itself you can find the impressive Three Graces Fountain, which was sculpted in 1790. In wintertime the Place de la Comédie is the place to get your holiday shopping done, as a Christmas Market is held here every year. Lastly, you can find many cafes and restaurants around the square.
Musée Fabre
One of Montpellier's best-known museums, the Musée Fabre, is located just two blocks north of the Place de la Comédie. The museum was founded by the Montpellier-born painter François-Xavier Fabre in 1825. A collection of his works formed the basis for the museum. Nowadays, the museum also displays paintings from the 17th Century up to the 19th Century, as well as several statues and other ceramic works. The museum is classified as a Museum of France.
The Polygon
If you come to Montpellier for the shopping, the huge shopping center Polygon is a good place to start. Located just east of the Place de la Comédie, the Polygon houses everything from well-known global brands to famous French stores. For example, a branch of the famous French department store Galeries Lafayette is located here. You'll also find shops such as Zara and H&M.
Stay in a Montpellier Vacation Rental Apartment

Montpellier's City Center the Ecusson
The historical city center of Montpellier is called the Ecusson. This area is full of narrow cobblestoned streets, beautiful French architecture, and small boutiques. If you prefer small independent shops to large department stores, the Ecusson is the place to go. The Ecusson neighborhood also boasts many great cafes and restaurants. If you want to have a proper French lunch or dinner, just stroll around the city center and pick a brasserie you like.
The Odysseum
For those of you who do like big department stores, the Odysseum is the shopping destination to check out. Located to the south-west of the city center of Montpellier, this massive complex houses big brands such as Apple, Ikea, H&M and Zara. Furthermore, there's a lot more to do here. The Odysseum features a big aquarium, a bowling alley, a rock climbing facility, and more. Plus there are plenty of restaurants and bars where you can enjoy some good food in between al the activities.
City Hall & Antigone
For lovers of modern architecture, the new City Hall is definitely something worth seeing. The contemporary glass structure was designed by Jean Nouvel, and opened in November of 2011. The main hall and the surrounding grounds are all open to the public. Another great display of architecture from the 20th Century is the Antigone neighborhood. The neighborhood features buildings designed by Ricordo Bofill in a grand neoclassical architectural style. The region including the arch-shaped Hotel de la Région and the impressive apartment buildings is nicknamed the Champs-Élysées of Montpellier.
We hope you've enjoyed this tour of Montpellier! Check out our blog for more information about the area:
