La Réunion (La Rényon en créole) est une île du sud-ouest de l'océan Indien dans l'hémisphère sud, devenue un département et une région d'outre-mer français (DROM). Elle est située dans l'archipel des Mascareignes à environ 700 kilomètres à l'est de Madagascar et à 170 kilomètres au sud-ouest de l'île Maurice, terre la plus proche. Bénéficiant d'un climat tropical et située sur la route des cyclones, elle présente un relief escarpé travaillé par une érosion très marquée. Elle culmine à 3 071 mètres d'altitude au sommet du piton des Neiges et abrite par ailleurs l'un des volcans les plus actifs du monde : le piton de la Fournaise. Ce dernier accroît épisodiquement la superficie de ce territoire d'environ 200 kilomètres de circonférence, lequel jouit sur ses 2 512 kilomètres carrés actuels d'un endémisme exceptionnel.
La Réunion est un département d'outre-mer (code départemental « 974 ») qui est devenu également une région ultrapériphérique de l'Union européenne. Néanmoins, et en dépit de son appartenance à la zone euro, son tissu productif reste structurellement fragile et fortement dépendant de la France métropolitaine. On y relève un taux de chômage particulièrement élevé, de l'ordre de 29 %, dont 60 % chez les jeunes3. Au dernier recensement en vigueur, celui de 2012, la population est de 833 944 habitants4. Les Réunionnais se concentrent sur les côtes, où l'espace et le logement viennent à manquer et où se trouve Saint-Denis, le chef-lieu.

Journey from the Ravine de Cabris through Le Tampon and up to the end of the world, near the summit of one of the most active volcanoes on the planet, Piton de la Fournaise on Réunion Island - a pearl in the Indian Ocean.

Perhaps (and maybe thankfully) not as well known as its neighbour Mauritius, Réunion is an island which has everything - rain forests, sand and coral beaches, mountains, volcanoes (active and extinct), european infrastructure and probably the friendliest people on the planet.

It has a wonderful and colourful history and really is worth the long journey to visit.....

Journey home from Ile de la Réunion on 19/10/2012 Part 3

All good things come to an end and so it was with our vacation on the lovely Ile de la Réunion in October.

Part 3 takes us from Saint Gilles to the bridge over the Riviére des Galets on the Routes des Tamarins. It was super hot and muggy that day but without any sunshine, just very cloudy as there was a cyclone on its way to the island.Thankfully our flight to Mauritius was able to get away on time but flight was interesting to say the least.

Choc culturel à Sulawesi. C'est ici au pays Toraja qu'on a découvert que la vie des gens pouvait tourner autour de la mort...
Dans cette région de centre Sulawesi, les rites funéraires ont une importance capitale et sont l'objet de cérémonies pouvant durer jusqu'à 2 mois. Nous avons eu la chance de nous faire inviter à ces funérailles pour vivre avec eux ces moments où le proche rejoint le Puja (paradis Toraja) grâce notamment aux sacrifices de buffles et cochons.

La Belle Créole Hotel was supposed to be a luxury resort, a small island of Saint Martin in the Caribbean. It’s origins date back to year 1964 when a well-known hotelier Claudius Charles Philippe who did everything to realize his dream by building this Titanic luxury hotel . In the early sixties he purchased this 300 acres piece of land in Nettle Bay and began the project. Hiring world famous architects who’s job was to create Mr. Philippe’s visionary ideas. The architects where faced by massive demands including furniture for each of the 200 plus rooms had to be modeled to look like Louis XIII era. Each room was to have a spectacular views and at the bathrooms were to be tiled with Italian marble, doors hand-carved mahogany wood and each floor had to be a different pattern of tile work. The hotel was to have a casino, a nightclub and boutiques with luxury goods as well. Unfortunately in 1969 all the funds for the project dried up and the hotel project laid dormant for many years. Unfortunately Claude Philippe died in 1978 without ever seeing his dream come true.
La Belle Créole gained a new project owner and the hotel was opened in 1988. Of the original 300-acre property was reduced to 25 acres and instead of 300 only 156 rooms were finished. The casino and nightclubs were ever built at all. The only thing that was ever finished of the original plans was it an incredible architecture.
In 1995 when Hurricane Luis passed directly over Saint Martin and massively damaging the Hotel. It never reopen and has been slowly decaying ever since.
Local legend says that the land where the hotel was built is on a cemetery of indigenous Arawaks people. inhabitants of the island – Arawaks. People believe that breach of the peace of ancestors was the reason for the failure of the project right from the start.

Mon Île #drone part II- (#île Maurice)

Maurice est une île d'origine volcanique appartenant à l'archipel des Mascareignes dont fait également partie l'île de La Réunion.

Sa surface est de 2 040 km2, dont 10 km2 d'eau.

Les 177 km de côtes sont entourées d'une barrière de corail.

Un plateau central (entre 400 et 600 mètres d'altitude) constitue l'intérieur des terres.

Son sommet est le Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire qui culmine à 828 mètres dans le sud-ouest de l'île.

Maurice ne possède aucune frontière terrestre avec un quelconque autre pays.

LA TRANCHE-SUR-MER, France | 2017 European Summer Holiday | ERASMUS Reunion

Had an awesome time catching up with most my Sunderland University friends after 4 long years! Compilation of Snapchat + action camera shots of our few days in La Tranche Sur Mer and a short day visit to Luçon, France to sum up the trip.

Bit of a lengthy video, didn't want to edit down a lot of our goodbye so I could reminisce on it in the future haha so there's a slab of 4 minutes raw footage at the end.
