Access to the island is limited to 500 visitors per day.

De bodem is van graniet, het weer weerbarstig en de bezienswaardigheden zijn gezonken of door zoute zeewind vergaan, maar juist dat maakt het gebied zo aantrekkelijk. Langs de kust van het west-Normandische schiereiland Cotentin loopt de GR 223, een wandelpad van 436 kilometer lang, van Isigny-sur-Mer aan de oostkust via Cap de la Hague naar le Mont-St-Michel aan de westkust. De GR223 verbindt de kalme oostkust van Cotentin met de verraderlijke rotsige westkust. Op Pad nam de trein naar Cherbourg en wandelde 5 trajecten van de GR223, met als beginpunt St-Vaast-la-Hougue en Carteret als eindpunt.
