Doringbaai, Western Cape, South Africa
Doringbaai is a settlement in West Coast District Municipality in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
Doringbaai, previously known as Thornbay, is a small fishing village. The main economic activity is the packaging and export of crayfish. Joburg man accused of racism following comments on social media
Incidents of racism have surfaced once again in some of the country's coastal cities. A Johannesburg man has caused an outrage on social media after posting what's considered to be a racist comment, referring to a photo showing a crowded Durban beachfront. The African National Congress Youth League is expected to lay criminal charges against him today. In a separate incident in Cape Town, the Saldanha Bay municipality has come under the spotlight. Some residents claim they've been barred from the beach front. Reports say the DA led municipality has issued passes to residents living in close proximity to the beachfront, granting them exclusive access, while those who don't live in the residential area have been barricaded out. The move has been heavily criticised by the ANC, which says the permit is reminiscent of the dompas.

OVERBERG trains beyond CALEDON: Pt 2 TRANSNET Shunting at KLIPDALE
OVERBERG trains beyond CALEDON: Part 2 TRANSNET Freight Rail Shunting trains at KLIPDALE during March 2018. In this video 2 separate trains get joined into one train at KLIPDALE. The balloon track at KLIPDALE is of special interest. Part of the Overberg barley harvest is stored in silos along railway routes in the area. Transnet Freight Rail transport some of this barley to the SAB maltings plant at Caledon. These diesel train operations beyond Caledon are not exactly rare, but being relatively remote for local railfans to access, are not regularly recorded in photos or videos. (More often train movements between Caledon and Bellville get recorded.) It was purely by chance that we stumbled upon train activities in March 2018 while based at LAgulhas.
The trains are relatively short, because most silo's can only accommodate about 10 grain hoppers at a time. Some silo's do have a small shunter to move the wagons while loading at the silo, but specifically the silo's at PROTEM and NAPIER have sidings designed with a small gradient, so that wagons can by moved very slowly by gravity and working the handbrake.
