San Alfonso del Mar is a private resort in Algarrobo, Chile, about 100 km (62 mi) west of Santiago. The resort has one of the world's largest swimming pools. At the time of its completion in 2006, it was in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest pool in the world before dethroned by Egypt’s crown jewel pool. Access to the pool is for residents only. There is no hotel at the premises, just apartments.

San Alfonso del Mar is a private resort in Algarrobo, Chile, about 100 km (62 mi) west of the capital Santiago. The resort is recognised as having the world's largest swimming pool.

At the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Chile, a quick dip could well turn into a marathon.
Swimming a length in this, the world's largest outdoor pool, would mean stroke after stroke for more than three fifths of a mile - that's 20 Olympic-size swimming pools.
The enormous man-made lagoon is set halfway up the country's Pacific coast, in the city of Algarrobo, and is filled with 66 million gallons of crystal clear seawater.

The pool opened in December 2006 after nearly five years of construction work and is said to have set developers back £2million.

Algarrobo Chile

Algarrobo is a coastal resort town in central Chile. It's known for beaches like El Canelillo, backed by pine forest.
