  • 1. Hearst Castle San Simeon
    Hearst Castle is a National Historic Landmark and California Historical Landmark mansion located on the Central Coast of California, United States. Designed by architect Julia Morgan, it was a residence for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst between 1919 and 1947. Hearst died in 1951, and it became a California State Park in 1958. Since that time, it has been operated as the Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument, where the estate, and its considerable collection of art and antiques, is open for public tours. Hearst formally named the estate La Cuesta Encantada , but usually called it the Ranch. Hearst Castle and grounds are also sometimes referred to as San Simeon, without distinguishing between the Hearst property and the adjacent unincorporated area of the same name.

    The Point San Luis Lighthouse, also known as the San Luis Obispo Light Station, is the only surviving Prairie Victorian model lighthouse that remains in existence on the West Coast of the United States. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and is being refurbished by the Point San Luis Lighthouse Keepers, a volunteer group. The lighthouse is located near Avila Beach on the Central Coast of California.

    Nitt Witt Ridge is a house on two and a half acres in Cambria, California, United States. Artist/recluse Arthur Art Harold Beal bought his hillside lot in 1928 and spent most of the next 50 years carving out the terraces with only a pick and shovel, creating his own castle on a hill. Arthur Harold Beal is known as Der Tinkerpaw or Captain Nitt Witt. Beal was garbage collector for the town of Cambria in the 1940s and 1950s and made good use of what Cambrians were throwing away, as well as the natural materials on the property, in the nearby pine forests, and on the area's beaches. Some parts are also reportedly remnants from Hearst Castle where he supposedly worked for a time. Other common building materials are beer cans, abalone shells, and concrete.
