Portofino, Rapallo & Santa Margherita, Italy - The Italian Riviera (Liguria)
Portofino, Rapallo & Santa Margherita - The Italian Riviera (Liguria)
#Portofino is a charming sea village on the Italian Riviera circumscribed by the green of the Natural Regional Park and Marine Reserve. This splendid sea resort with its lux, Mediterranean personality, also boasts an ancient marine culture. The area around Portofino is a protected park.
The little streets leading up from the harbour can be explored in very little time. As well as expensive boutiques, there are cheaper souvenir shops and also general stores where you could put together a picnic if you're planning on a walk. Via Roma leads upwards from the harbour, and is the busiest street, with a range of shops, the Portofino Tourist Information Office and the Post Office.
The pretty Piazzetta by the harbour is lined with cafe and restaurant tables, a lovely place to relax with a drink and watch the boats.
Wandering the waterfront and the lanes, you'll find yachting boutiques, jewellers and art galleries.......
#Rapallo was originally a traditional harbour town, and is now the largest and most important seaside resort on the Mediterranean coast in north-west Italy. It is not far from Portofino and with its range of hotels, Rapallo makes a good base for exploring the coast. Bigger and busier than its neighbours, and a little less expensive. Rapallo is convenient for travellers as it is also nearer the autostrada and has more 'stopping' train services......
#Santa Margherita Ligure is that wonderfully old-fashioned kind of Riviera resort where palm fronds wave along the esplanade and is also well placed to explore local highlights such as Portofino. The seafront is the main attraction at Santa Margherita Ligure, with its beach, lively harbour and promenade, and is very picturesque with palm trees, grand buildings and brightly coloured houses immediately behind the seafront. There are two quite extensive areas of beach in the centre of the town, hence its popularity as a base for visitors exploring the region.....

This is a virtual walking tour of Santa Margherita in Ligure near Genoa. This beautiful coastal town is along the Italian Riviera. In the video I walk along the waterfront boardwalk. It was overcast on this day. The next day I would head to Cinque Terre and film Riomaggiore Manarola and the other coastal towns along the Cinque Terre just past Rapallo.

Portofino and Santa Margherita, Italy
Portofino along the shores of the Italian Riviera, a little seaport town, has a terrace with the picture-perfect postcard view of Portofino’s harbor, colorful buildings, and green hills beyond. This is not to be missed; in fact this view is the reason for our visit. Somehow the overall elements around you fit together in a perfectly harmonious whole,
Santa Margherita is a classic town on the waterfront of the Italian Riviera, with arcaded sidewalks, beautiful palm trees and a green park promenade along the beach and marina.
When you walk in a block from the waterfront you discover a charming Old Town atmosphere with pedestrian streets, little piazzas, shops, restaurants and locals out for a stroll. Not many tourists in this town, which therefore has a more authentic Italian feeling. It’s a great little town full of light and color with orange and brown pastel buildings nestled right up against the picturesque waterfront.

Santa Margherita Ligure is that wonderfully old-fashioned kind of Riviera resort where palm fronds wave along the esplanade and foreign visitors spend a week or two out of season, enjoying the balmy climate, attractive views and comfortable long-established hotels.
Santa Margherita Ligure is a fair-sized town; large enough not to seem smothered by the tourism which has been an integral part of the town's existence for decades. The harbour mainly caters for smart yachts, but the town is also home to a small fishing fleet which can be seen unloading opposite the businesslike morning fishmarket. There are wide ranges of hotels and restaurants, and a selection of good daytrips to make if you get tired of pottering along the laidback seafront.
Santa Margherita Ligure is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Genoa in the Italian region Liguria, located about 35 kilometres (22 mi) southeast of Genoa, in the Tigullio traditional area. Santa Margherita Ligure borders the following municipalities: Camogli, Portofino, Rapallo. It has a port, used for both tourism and fishing activities. Part of comune territory is included in the Regional Natural Park of Portofino.
Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure, built by the Republic of Genoa in 1550 as defence against the increasing attacks of North African pirates. It was designed by the same architect of the Castle of Rapallo. After World War I it was restored and entitled to the Italian victims of that conflict. Basilica of St. Margaret of Antiochia, built from 1658 on the remains of a 13th-century church. Abbazia della Cervara, a historically relevant abbey on the road to Portofino. Villa Durazzo complex, including two patrician villas, a 16th-century castle and 17th-century park.
Paraggi was a small village of fishermen and millers. It is located along the Costa dei Delfini, halfway between Santa Margherita and Portofino. It is about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from Santa Margherita Ligure, reachable by bus or by boat. Nozarego is a natural terrace over the Bay of Tigullio. Here there is the church of Santa Maria Assunta with the cobbled square in typical ligurian. From Nozarego also leave several trails in the Park of Portofino.
Located on the slopes of the mountain, to the north, along the Aurelia road that leads to Genoa, there is the frazione of San Lorenzo della Costa in whose namesake church of the thirteenth century, is preserved a Flemish triptych.
