The Puente Nuevo is the newest and largest of three bridges that span the 120-metre -deep chasm that carries the Guadalevín River and divides the city of Ronda, in southern Spain. The architect was José Martin de Aldehuela, who died in Málaga in 1802. The chief builder was Juan Antonio Díaz Machuca. The construction of the newest bridge was started in 1759 and took 34 years to build. There is a chamber above the central arch that was used for a variety of purposes, including as a prison. During the 1936-1939 civil war both sides allegedly used the prison as a torture chamber for captured opponents, killing some by throwing them from the windows to the rocks at the bottom of the El Tajo gorge. Doñana National Park is a natural reserve in Andalusia, southern Spain, in the provinces of Huelva , Cádiz and Seville. It covers 543 km2 , of which 135 km2 are a protected area. The park is an area of marshes, shallow streams, and sand dunes in Las Marismas, the delta where the Guadalquivir River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. It was established as a nature reserve in 1969 when the World Wildlife Fund joined with the Spanish government and purchased a section of marshes to protect it. The eco-system has been under constant threat by the draining of the marshes, the use of river water to boost agricultural production by irrigating land along the coast, water pollution by upriver mining, and the expansion of tourist facilities. Our day trip from Seville to Santiponce took about 25 minutes by bus. Santiponce is where the archeological ancient ruins of the Roman City of Italica is found. Italica was founded in the year 206 B.C. That's right 206 before Christ. This is also the place where scenes from the Game of Thrones were filmed (huge fun here :0).

DAY 2: TOUR TO ITALICA-GAME OF THRONES VENUE | SEVILLE SPAIN

Italica is located just 10km from the centre of Seville Spain. I don’t know whether you would consider that to be part of any day trips from Seville as some people say it might be too close but you could say 2 centuries ago it was Seville. Italica Spain was a Roman settlement from the 2nd-century BC through to the 4th century AD. It was a settlement of some note and today it’s considered to be the best Roman ruins in Spain. Surprisingly it seems not to feature on many people’s lists of what to see in Seville, which as we found out is a big mistake!
The great Roman General Scipio chose Italica as a place to settle his war veterans who fought Hannibal and the Carthaginians. Italica was so called as because of the Italian origins of the veterans who made it home.
Italica’s reputation and status in the Roman Empire thrived as it was the birthplace of 2 mighty Roman emperors Trajan and Hadrian.
