As of the 2010 census, its population was 486.The community was named for the fact a large share of the first settlers were named Scarbrough.

  • 2. Hawks Nest State Park Ansted
    Hawks Nest State Park is located on 370 acres in Fayette County near Ansted, West Virginia. The park's clifftop overlook along U.S. Route 60 provides a scenic vista of the New River, some 750 feet below. The hydro-electric project tunnel that passes underneath nearby Gauley Mountain was the scene of the tragic Depression-era Hawks Nest Tunnel disaster. The original building, now a gift shop and museum, was built as a Civilian Conservation Corps project. The park lodge was constructed in 1967 by The Architects Collaborative . The park's lodge and aerial gondola to the river are located about a mile further east from the overlook along U.S. 60, closer to the center of Ansted.

    Cascades is an area in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests of western Virginia, United States, that has been recognized by the Wilderness Society as a special place worthy of protection from logging and road construction The area is named after a 60-foot waterfall on Little Stony Creek which flows out of the area into the New River. With easily accessible trails, the area has become a popular destination.
