Japan has always been one of my favorite countries to travel to whether for vacation or adventures. Well, mostly vacations. Since I have a huge fan of the Japanese delicacies and hot springs, Japan became a no brainer when it came to this long weekend in the autumn weather. Nagoya jumped to my parents as the obvious choice due to its distance from the tourists in both Tokyo and Kyoto. We prefer to spend the vacation where there are fewer crowds and trying to steal a piece of peaceful quietness from the local Japanese towns.
We travelled from the nearby towns from Yoro to Toba so to avoid the tourist groups in downtown Nagoya. Yoro was remote and beautiful with its view from above the mountain, while Toba was close to the ocean with its fame from pearl harvesting. Want to know more? Well stay tuned!

How to Be a Modern-Day Samurai
The Way of the Warrior is still very much alive at Japan's Soma Nomaoi festival. Once a year, men of all ages a test their mettle in events where failure can be fatal.
For three days each summer, this Japanese town turns the clock back to the time of the samurai – and a world that exists only in pictures comes alive.
Horsemen dressed in full samurai attire race around a track, chase wild horses, and battle for a sacred flag, just as they did over a thousand years ago.
• The highlight of the festival is the horseback battle to capture a sacred falling flag shot out of a modified cannon.
• In a separate event, older men compete for the honor of catching wild horses with their bare hands and dedicating them to the local Shrine.
Overcoming the earthquake and nuclear accident, Soma no Maoi takes place in Fukushima prefecture - - 200 km north of Tokyo. The area was decontaminated just to allow the festival to recommence!
Few tourists know about the Soma No Maoi. It’s not famous and it’s far off the beaten track. These are not fake costumes or actors in a movie – they are often genuine descendants of samurai families using armor that has been passed down for generations.
An event not to be missed.

hotel,Himeji has been the center of Harima Province since Nara period. After the Battle of Sekigahara, Ikeda Terumasa received a fief at Harima Province and established the Himeji Domain. He expanded the Himeji Castle and its castle town.
Himeji was the capital of Himeji Prefecture (later Shikama Prefecture) since 1871, but the prefecture was merged into Hyōgo Prefecture in 1876. The city of Himeji was established on April 1, 1889. After the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake, the Japanese government reportedly considered moving the nation's capital from Tokyo to Himeji.
On March 27, 2006, the town of Yasutomi (from Shisō District), the town of Kōdera (from Kanzaki District), and the towns of Ieshima and Yumesaki (both from Shikama District) were merged into Himeji.

Originally a castle town, Himeji is home to the Himeji Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For over 400 years, Himeji Castle has remained intact, even throughout the extensive bombing of Himeji in World War II and natural disasters such as the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake and various typhoons.[4][5][6] Other attractions include the Engyō-ji temple, Mount Seppiko, Himeji Central Park (a safari park), the Himeji City Tegarayama Botanical Garden in Tegarayama Central Park and the Koko-en Garden.

Samurai Battle Fest - Siege of Hachigata Castle, Yorii 寄居北條まつり
The Siege of Hachigata Castle in 1590 is merely a footnote in the grand campaign of Toyotomi Hideyoshi to teach the haughty Hojo Clan of Odawara to respect his authority as the strongest leader in medieval Japan. However, in the town of Yorii they make it a big deal with a battle festival where they fire makeshift canons and have people dressed in armor battling each other with soft-tipped spears.
It's a fun festival held every Spring. In the past it seems it was in April now it seems the second Sunday of May but don't quote me on that. Definitely worth checking out though!

Fushimi Inari Taisha (Fushimi Inari Shrine) is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari, the god of rice, sake, and prosperity. “Fushimi” is simply the location, added to the name to distinguish it from other Inari shrines.
Starting her journey in Japan’s beautiful former capital Kyoto, Megan McCormick sees a colourful festival celebrating 1200 years of the city’s history, and visits the gorgeous Fushimi Inari Shinto shrine, where she eats barbecued sparrow (which are eaten here as traditionally they’ve been considered an enemy of the harvest for eating rice grains).
In-Kyoto,-at-the-Toei-Movie-Studio-Theme-Park,-which-is-the-cheapest-place-in-Kyoto-where-you-can-get-dressed-up-as-a-GeishaAt Toji Buddhist temple, one of Kyoto’s 13 World Heritage Sites, Megan explores the city’s best flea market, which has a huge variety of traditional items on sale. After trying Zen meditation with a Buddhist monk, Megan visits the district of Gion, home to most of Kyoto’s few hundred remaining Geisha, where she meets a Geisha apprentice and is then entertained by a group of Geisha at a traditional-style banquet.
Next Megan travels to Japan’s bustling second city Osaka, home to nearly three million people. In the crowded city, many apartment blocks don’t allow tenants to keep pets – Megan visits a Cat Café, where cat lovers can enjoy chilling out with over 20 different breeds of cat whilst having a coffee. Osaka’s children are taught traditional Japanese values at an early age – Megan visits Kidzania, a theme park where kids can pretend to work at a huge variety of jobs, including the police and fire service.
After staying overnight at a convenient capsule hotel in Osaka, Megan travels to Iga-Ueno, which for centuries was one of the top strongholds of Japan’s famous Ninja, who were used as mercenaries by feuding warlords during the Era of the Warring States in the C15th & C16th. After enjoying a popular Ninja tourist show, she takes part in a hilarious knockabout competition that aims to find the best local amateur Ninja.
Moving on to the small town of Sekigahara, Megan visits the site of Japan’s most famous Samurai battle on its anniversary – Samurai re-enactors dressed in traditional armour commemorate the warriors who were killed here in 1600.
Sado-island-is-the-home-of-the-world-famous-traditional-Japanese-drumming-group-KodoTravelling by train through the Japanese Alps, and then by ferry across the Japan Sea, Megan heads to the remote and unspoiled island of Sado. Here she goes fishing in a bizarre barrel-shaped ‘boat’ that is unique to the island. Bicycling along Sado Island’s beautiful coast, Megan then visits the training centre of the traditional Japanese drumming group Kodo, where apprentices practise daily in the hope of being accepted into the world-famous group.
Finally, Megan travels to Himeji, where she witnesses the highly colourful, dramatic and dangerous Nada Fighting Festival, involving a ‘battle’ between heavy portable shrines carried by local villagers in loincloths, which is a spectacular climax to a fascinating journey.
Ueda castle - Nagano - 上田城 - 4K Ultra HD
Built in the latter half of the 16th century by the daimyo Sanada Masayuki, Ueda Castle, or in Japanese Ueda-jo, was one of Nagano's major castles as well as a force to recon with and this primarily is thanks to the skill of Sanada Masayuki in war strategies and tactics. Destroyed after the battle of Sekigahara, the castle was then partially rebuilt by the Tokugawa family who appointed another daimyo (ruler) to take care of the area.
