Hello everyone, it's David Adams here, I made this personal VLOG series to capture my journey across the country from Alpharetta, GA to San Francisco, CA. I'm an IT Consultant for Show Data Solutions and we had a show in California to setup a network and kiosk configuration for. The vehicle of choice is Freightliner Sprinter Van governed at 70MPH. No big deal, it made the trip quite relaxing and super fun when you got a good downhill going and could get into the 80s. It also was SUPER SCARY going around the twisty bits in New Mexico at any speed with 4000+lbs of freight in the vehicle.

Giant Sequoia National Monument - Trail of 100 Giants

California Travel Expert Veronica Hill offers a guide to Giant Sequoia National Monument in this episode of California Travel Tips.
Located roughly 1 hour from Kernville in Sequoia National Park, on the steep and twisting Western Divide Highway, the Trail of 100 Giants was established by President Bill Clinton on April 15, 2000.
Giant sequoias are the largest trees on Earth, growing up to 311 feet tall and 56 feet wide. Some of the oldest trees date back approximately 4,000 years!
The roots of these trees are only 6 feet deep! Because of this, they are easily blown over during high winds.
The 1/2-mile paved trail is wheelchair accessible and takes roughly 1 hour to complete. Start your tour at Clinton's Proclamation Tree, then wind your way through Long Meadow Grove, which is home to 268 giant sequoias.
There are 13 stops along the trail, where you'll see a meadow of skunk cabbage, several running streams, and an abundance of bright green wolf lichen growing on the trees.

Oahu, Hawaii Trip in February 2017
Trip to Oahu, Hawaii aka The Gathering Place... Landed at HNL airport around 12pm. Stopped by Honolulu Kitchen for their famous manapuas before heading to Costco to stock up for the trip. Next day, we drove around the island. Stopped by a few stops: Sunset Beach, Ted's Bakery, Poi Factory, Makapuu beach... Second day, rented kayaks and snorkels then paddled out to the flat island, Lanikai beach and Moku Nui island. Third day, stopped by banzai pipeline, waimea bay beach (cliff jumping and kite flying), Haleiwa (Matsumoto Shaved Ice and Clark Little Gallery), Dole Plantation and then flew back to Los Angeles on a 4pm flight.

As in love with St. Francis as the current Pope Francis I, Father Junipero Serra left Spain at 36,in 1749, destined for the New World. The Franciscan priest's mandate was to travel to Mexico and later California, where Spain was counteracting Russian expansion, establishing a rest stop for Manilla Galleons to the Orient, and converting natives to Christianity. It was an undertaking that seemed impossible, given the vast distances, the challenges of an unforgiving landscape, and the danger posed by resistant native tribes. Yet, by the time he died, at 71, Serra had traveled 14,000 miles, baptized and confirmed more than 6,000 Indians, and founded nine of California's 21 missions. Twelve years in the making, Journey to the Sun: Junipero Serra's Dream and the Founding of California is Gregory Orfalea's authoritative and incisive biography of a man whose story is as essential to the founding of our nation as the stories of Plymouth Rock and Jamestown
Serra was deeply passionate about bringing Christianity to the native people of California, even as he tried to protect them from the soldiers of the Spanish Crown. The names of the missions he founded will be familiar to any American—San Diego, San Gabriel, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Clara, San Francisco—though many of us know little about the story behind them. Combining European and American history, religious scholarship, geography, and anthropology, Orfalea masterfully recounts the story and brings new information to our knowledge of a man whose massive cultural project not only created the blueprint for modern California, but changed the future of our nation. About the Author: Gregory Orfalea was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and educated at Georgetown University and the University of Alaska. He is the author or editor of eight books, the most recent of which are The Man Who Guarded the Bomb (2010) and Angeleno Days (2009). The recipient of many awards for his writing, Orfalea's Angeleno Days won the 2010 Arab American Book Award and was named a Finalist for the PEN USA Award in Creative Nonfiction. He has taught at the Claremont Colleges, Georgetown University, and Westmont College.
