Shantou Trip (Travel Vlog)
Hello Youtube! This is my Shantou Vlog. I went to visit my relatives there for the first time, it was amazing to see back my roots. I am from Singapore, back then my grandparents travelled by a small boat to Singapore to earn for a living. It was not easy, after all their blood, sweat and tears, here I am, living in Singapore healthily. So, if you are from America or Australia or any other places, always remember your roots and acknowledge how hard your past ancestors have gone through those hardships.

Duck & Pickled Radish Soup ~ The Best Chinese Food You've Never Had + Chengdu's Biggest Panda
Pickled radish and duck soup is a warm hug on a cold day. I head to Chunxi Rd, Chengdu's main shopping area, where you can buy souvenirs and clothes at pretty much any price point. At the high-end is the International Finance Square Mall. It's packed with brand name designer shops like Gucci, Prada, and Armani. At the top of the mall, hanging off the side of the building, is the biggest panda in Chengdu. It's a sculpture designed by Lawrence Argent called I Am Here. It has quickly became one of the most iconic images in Chengdu.
After a long day of shopping there's nothing like a hot bowl of soup. Pickled radish and duck together in a bone broth with pickled peppers. The broth has a spicy tang to it. The duck is moist and tender. It comes in a hot cauldron with a side of rice and some other pickled treats. The dish is a Chongqing specialty, but this version is a little different. Usually, the dish is served hot pot style with a large pot shared by multiple people, but no one likes me so I had to go alone ☹

China Backstreets - Beijing - Fruit Vendor
Episode 2 - Beijing - SiHui Fruit Vendor
Roadsides in China are often lined with vendors filled with entrepreneurial spirit. This particular fruit vendor has gone from selling a meager stock from the back of her tricycle to a shiny pickup truck. She and her husband have prospered by long connection and constant cheerful attitude. But the life is not always easy. They face the elements, long hours, difficult customers and sometimes - the unexpected. We followed one fruit vendor in the Sihui area in the south east of Beijing.
Come join Obscure Productions obscure-productions.com for China Backstreets. A light, subjective and not very documentary series that takes a look at some of the small places in China that you might not see on the mainstream media. This is just a rough and fun slice of life look at the real China many foreigners might not get a chance to see.

Production notes:
This was shot on the consumer-friendly, but low-end pro Sony NEX-vg-10. It is a light portable and relatively cheap full HD camera with simple controls, adequate features and a really very nice built in stereo microphone.
Zhaoqing - the three villages
In the first of a new series D J Clark travels to the three villages of Li Cha, Cheng Hu and Cha Tang in the Zhaoqing district. they all have classical Lingnan architecture from the Song dynasty with ancestral temples and classical wok-handle shaped roofs. Li Cha is the crown jewel with it's octagon shape layout surrounded by water.
To get to the starting point of the three villages walk take bus 315 from railway station bus station. The ride takes about 50 minutes, costs 10 RMB and leaves every half an hour. Tell the driver to stop and notify you at Li Cha. There is a 20 RMB charge to enter the village.
It's fun to explore Li Cha on foot, and difficult to get lost as it's surrounded by water. Outside the village their are many restaurants with local country cooking, if it's too early to eat don't worry there are other places along the way.
Once you are done exploring look for the village road out to Cha Tang and set off on foot. It takes less than an hour to reach and has lots of people and farmwife to see along the way. As with Li Cha - Cha Tong has typical Lingnan architecture from the Song dynasty with ancestral temples and classical wok-handle shaped roofs.
To get to the third village of Cheng Hu again look for the path on a map or ask around, it will take about another hour to reach. Finally walk back to Li Cha (it's a triangle so find the direct route) from where you can find the 315 bus on the other side of the road to get back to Zhaoqing.
