Siem Reap has got to be one of our favorite places in all of Cambodia and maybe event all of Southeast Asia! The history is vibrant and made tangible through the artifacts found in the Khamer and Angkor Museum, and of course the glorious ruins found in the renowned Angkor Archeological Park.

The name Siem Reap can be translated to mean Defeat of Siam (siem in Khmer), and is commonly taken as a reference to an incident in the centuries-old conflict between the Siamese and Khmer kingdoms, although this is probably apocryphal. According to oral tradition, King Ang Chan (1516–1566) had named the town Siem Reap, meaning the defeat of Siam, after he repulsed an army sent to invade Cambodia by the Thai King Maha Chakkraphat in 1549.However, scholars such as Michael Vickery consider this derivation to be simply a modern folk etymology, and maintain that while the names Siem Reap and Chenla (old Chinese name for Cambodia) may perhaps be related, the actual origin of the name is unknown.

In reality, surviving historic sources make this folk tale appear very unlikely, since they date the decline of the Angkor kingdom to more than a century before this, when a military expedition from Ayutthaya captured and sacked Angkor Wat, which began a long period of vassal rule over Cambodia. The 1431 capture coincided with the decline of Angkor, though the reasons behind its abandonment are not clear. They may have included environmental changes and failings in the Khmer infrastructure.
From the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, infighting among the Khmer nobility led to periodic intervention and domination by both of Cambodia's more powerful neighbors, Vietnam and Siam. Siem Reap, along with Battambang (Phra Tabong) and Sisophon, major cities in the northwest of Cambodia, was under Siamese administration and the provinces were collectively known as Inner Cambodia from 1795 until 1907, when they were ceded to French Indochina. During the 18th century, under the rule of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, it was known as Nakhorn Siam (Siam's city).
Siem Reap's recent history is coloured by the horror of the brutal Khmer Rouge regime. Since Pol Pot's death in 1998, however, relative stability and a rejuvenated tourist industry have revived the city and province.

Kompong Phluk means “Harbor of the tusks”, is a small village located at the edge of Tonle Sap Lake, about 25km from central Siem Reap (30mins drive). It is one of tourism attractions, the well-famous mangroves “flooded” provides great boat adventure where tourists paddling into the mangroves and explore the nature, the tranquility or you may see water-birds or hear birds singing nearby. The peddle boat adventure also takes to visit the stilt houses with lifestyle animated by fishing activities and a great time to take picturesque photos. Next, your boat excursion cruises down to Tonle Sap “Great Lake” where you see the largest lake in South East Asia and is an ecological hot spot that was designated as a UNESCO biosphere in 1997. Get to learn more about its ecosystem, fishing techniques and the fisheries. In the dry season, the village is well dry (Feb – June), you have to walk through the village then you realize that those houses tower 6-8 meters above you. You will see the locals producing smoke fishes and fermented fish (fish paste). The peddle boat adventure is not accessible for the exploration around the mangroves. So the suggested time for you to explore Kompong Phluk is from October to January.

Day 10-Jul: Arrival Siem Reap
Upon, arrival will meet our guide and driver than we cycling visit the famous overgrown temple Ta Phrom, then cycle to Angkor Thom and Bayon Temple (Famous for its 4 faces). Along the way, We will stop for a water blessing by the monks of Wat Palylie.
Day 11-Jul: Siem Reap - Kulen Cycling and Camping
Today we start very early to see Angkor Wat at sunrise than visit Angkor Wat before we cycling straight to Kulen Mountain and arriving there set the camp than swimming the waterfall.
Day 12-Jul: Kulen Mountain – Bang Mealea-Preah Vihear
In the morning, cycling down the hill and we continue to Bang Mealea Temple than transfer to Sro Em.
Day 13-Jul: Preah Vihear – Steung Treng 60 km
After breakfast at a local restaurant we will cycle to the foot of Preah Vihear Mountain then transfer by truck to the mountaintop to pay a visit to the temple of Preah Vehear. From here we transfer to Stueng Treng to the next cycling segment, after crossing the Mekong River by the local ferry. Later on we will check in at our hotel.
Day 14-Jul: Steung Treng – Mekong Waterfall-4000 island
Early morning, visit the local market they set up on the public garden with a lot of people are selling vegetable and river fish than transfer the Dong Kralor border cross to Laos side to visit Shi Phendon where the Mekong river fall in between Cambodia and Laos and than we take Tuk Tuk to 4000 Island to explore around the Island and also to visit the railway that had lest there since French colonial in Indochina and they built it for the transport their ship that come up from down's Mekong and cross to up's Mekong. In the afternoon lunch and than transfercback to Steung Treng.
Day 15-Jul: Steung Treng – Kratie- Koh Trong
After breskfast, then we jump on our mountain bikes and take a fun ride along some gravel roads with river views to Srae Krasang. This trail follows the Mekong River and is a great place to cycle off the main road, enjoying the scenery and remoteness of the area. (28 km)
We continue cycling around 6 kilometres more along the river to see a very unusual tree (Ko Ky Tmor), which collapsed into the water many years ago and is now petrified, then we carry on to the dolphin pool. After our picnic lunch a car will be waiting for us for the 3-hour transfer to Sadan, where we pick up our cycling again and it’s off to Kratie.
Arrival Kratie we cross the river to the home stay of Mrs Cheata at Koh Trong.
Day 16-Jul: Koh Trong - Kratie
Today, The nature a lam o'clock will wake you up by the roster than breakfast and after that we take the horse's trailer riding around the island to plan a three for the community than return back the home stay to say good bye and take the ferry to Kratie than cycling to the market for the 1 hour see the daily life the local peoples make the living than to cycling to Prey Kampy to take the boat to see the fresh water Dolphin.
Day 17-Jul: Kratie –Kompong Cham
After breakfast at the hotel, Transfer to Chlong than we bike a long the Mekong river passing by a lot of huge traditional’ house and before the cross the ferry the western side the river we will pass the biggest Muslims community in Cambodia are also living the long Mekong river.
Day 18-Jul: Kompong Cham – Phnom Penh 64 km
After breakfast we continue cycling along the banks of the Mekong River passing the local market, villages with tobacco plantations, then enjoy the packed lunch near the riverbank. We continue to cycle until we pick up the van for our transfer to Phnom Penh, avoiding the busy traffic. After checking in at your hotel, we will have a farewell dinner.
Day 19: Phnom Penh - Kirirom Mountain 4WD tour
In the morning, we will meet up at the local restaurant for breakfast than we drive to national park of the Kirirom Mountain than explore our adventure drive up the to the forest and up to the highest mountain in Cambodia than spot for the picnic lunch. in the evening we will stay in the tent or hammock and overnight in the jungle.
Day 20: Kirirom Mountain - Phnom Penh –
After the breakfast, we drive around the National park than continue to down the Chines power dam and than we will cross the line to Kompot as well to spot for lunch. In the afternoon return back to Phnom Penh.
