The town formed a part of the traditional Chera and Chola empires and has a number of exquisitely sculpted temples. Karuvurar born in medieval Karur, is one among the nine devotees who sung the divine Music Thiruvichaippa, which is the ninth Thirumurai. He is the single largest composer among the nine authors of Thiruvichaippa. He lived during the reign of the Chola king Raja Raja Chola I. In addition to the Pasupatheeswarar Siva temple, there is a Vishnu temple at Thiruvithuvakkodu suburb of Karur, sung by famous Kulasekaraazhvaar (7th-8th century). The same temple is presumably mentioned in epic Silappadikaram as Adaha maadam Ranganathar whose blessings Cheran Senguttuvan sought before his north Indian expedition.

Shivagange - Kashi of the South
Shivagange is a mountain peak with a height of 804.8 meters or 2640.3 feet and Hindu pilgrimage center located near Dobbaspet, in Bengaluru Rural district India. It is situated 20 km from the town of Tumakuru and 54 km from Bengaluru.The sacred mountain is shaped as a shivalinga and a spring flows near locally called Ganga, thereby by giving the place its name. It is also known as Dakshina Kashi (Kashi of the South) and place is having various temples such as Gangadhareshwara temple, Sri Honnammadevi Temple, Olakal Teertha, Nandi Statue, Patalagange, A historical rock statue of Nandi or Basavanna carved on top of a steep rock is considered as a spell binding sculpture because of its narrow location.Sharadambe temple and several theerthas such as Agasthya theertha, Kanva theertha, Kapila theertha, Pathala Gange etc. are found in this hill.
Sri Honnammadevi Temple is in side the cave. Sri Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple is also in side the cave. Gavi means Cave, Gangadhareshwara means Parameshwara having Gange on the top. Every year in the month of January on the day of Sankranthi festival, the marriage function of Sri Gangadhareshwara and Sri Honnammadevi (Parvathi) will be done. At that time Ganga Water will come from rock at the top of hill. From that holy water Marriage function will be done.

Cuddalore is a famous Shiva temple here. Sri Paataleeswarar is the presiding Deity with Brahannayaki Amman. This is an ancient and beautiful temple. Five kilometres from the main busstand is the town Thiruvahindrapuram where the famous Vaishnavite temple of Sri Devanathan is situated. You can buy good variety of Clay dolls for Navarathri from nearby place Vandipalayam (about 2 km). Also, there is a town called Panruti, 21 km from here, which is famous for its Palaa Pazham (Jack fruit), Cashew nuts, and ground nuts. On the way from Cuddalore to Panruti you can find a place called Thiruvathigai where a famous Shiva temple is located. There is a famous farm in Palur near Panruti where you can get all kinds of plants. Agriculture research is also being carried out in Palur farm. Panruti dolls are also famous. Athangudi Palace near Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu
Athangudi is a small village in Sivaganga District , Tamil Nadu. Palace (Built: early 20th century), outside Karaikudi city, is a classic example of the traditional Chettinad architecture. At the entrance is a pillared veranda or thinnai, meant for receiving visitors. Heavy ornate wooden doors lead to the main hall. Typically, the Palace extends to courtyards, dining halls etc. Italian marble, Burma teak, stained glass and a fusion of colour and ornate wrought iron, handmade tiles and woodwork, light up this house. The place is known for its floor tiles called as Athangudi tiles. The tiles are handmade and has traditional patterns as design. It is durable and eco-friendly.
