Beautiful places #1: Mjölby, Sweden
Mjölby, the town where I grew up, is a very beautiful place, I think.
Right now they tear down one of the largest buildings, but I think that
is only exciting.
Journey to Sweden - May 2016
Part One: my trip to Sweden, first stop Göteborg! I had the best time heading over to see my two favorite Lovebirds get married. Grattis Anna & Joakim Örneblad! It was a great day and night. This was my 4th trip to Sweden and this place will always be like home to me. Hope you enjoyed the journey with me! Part Two coming soon.

Motala miljo
2005-08-06 04 København to X2000
Here we have engine 1522 from DSB. When I was waiting for the X2000 to arrive to take me to Stockholm I had this engine stop right by me and what a joy to hear something I usually hear back home, nearly 5000 miles away! These engines were built under license from EMD, and under the hood of this engine, it sounds like a SD40. It brought a smile to my face to hear something familiar so far away from home.
Then after boarding the X2000, I continue northbound. Then after a stroke of luck, I was invited to ride in the cab of the X2000! It was my first REAL cab ride that exceeded 10 MPH... at 125MPH (200kph)! Nothing like Amtrak back home!
The 2 engineers and staff I met from SJ could not have been more helpful and open on this last leg of my European rail journey. I learned a lot from them and will cherish that trip for a very long time. I saw sights and views from the front of the train that I would have not seen otherwise. And the engineers (operators?) pointed out sights that normally wouldn't have been mentioned in the back of the train. Even saw a wooden castle somewhere along the tracks between Malmö and Stockholm. It was the best 2 hours of train travel I think I have ever experienced.
Only one bad thing...someone placed the windshield washer fluid supply hose between the window and the windshield wiper, making the cleaning of the brakeman's side window really 'buggy'. But hey, I am not complaining here.
Between 4:20 to 5:15, after using Google earth with its ruler and timing spots on the video, I determined that going through Sommen, we were going 115MPH. Then further down the track, between 6:05 and 6:45 we were traveling at 130MPH.

Travel back in time and enjoy the great view and beauty of the railroads in Sweden. Enjoy the charm of vintage trains and railways before they where changed or rebuilt beyond recognition.
This line has been completely change since this video was made. This film includes the old line via Karlsby that was replaced a year later.
