We just returned from a fantastic trip to Eco Loge Kolarbyn ”Sweden’s most primitive hotel”. Eco Loge provides an ordinary experience. It’s back to basics but still so exiting and fulfilling. Travel to a forgotten time where the easy simple life was the natural way of living.
This hotel is so special because:
-no electricity
-no showers
-natural water springs
-nothing vain at all, just natural delightful magic!
And that is exactly why you are going to fall in love with this place! This feels like your own saga, a secret fiction place on earth, but this one is for real.
Even if its possible to imagine a place like this for you, the pictures and the upcoming video that is under construction will provide the authentic and bohemic feeling that grew on us when we were visiting Eco Loge. It’s a true sense.
People from various part of the world pilgrim to this lodge well hidden in deep forests of “Västmanland”. A perfect recreation area where you can spend quality time with friends, family or your belove. Prepare your own food over the open fire. We brought our own char-coal but this was for sure unnecessary – till mid of the 20’th century this was the place where charcoal was produced, so trust me, there is in abounds.
The lodges, embedded in a mystic ever green forest, brings you to Fylke and viewing the lodges you just wished to be a hobbit – these lodges are small but the level of cosiness is unexplainable – your mind will indulge in an ambient atmosphere of warm candle lights, the sound of sparkling fire of birch logs and a pleasant draft of fresh forest air penetrating the lodge through a well thought open space created between the door and lodge’s roof, puts you slowly into a deep sleep – your state of mind is most divine state.
Intoxicated by the most pleasant ingredients mother nature can provide, you slowly wake up by delightful music of birds. You hopefully look at your beloved and you don’t want this dream to end.
Refresh your mind and body by take a stroll, through “the path of loss” to the floating sauna – ignite the fire, relax, talk with your entourage and get into the lake – from 90°C to 9°C, that’s a nice wake up call. You will feel like asome kind of super hero.
As mentioned above, this is hub for recreation – only your imagination limits your outdoor activities. Canoes are accessible by the shore of the lake (on the path to the sauna), walking safari (the area contains a rich wildlife such a moose, deers, wolves, foxes, various eagles to mention a few), hikes - the forest and its surroundings are full of it - we think you will get surprised…according to the folkloristic tales there is a nymphs awaiting you by the fresh water source. Walking to her, absolutely quietness is required – this is not an effort, as you walk through a breath-taking beautifully forest you will forget verbal language. By the time you reached the source, knock three time with your right hand, open the lid and drink (again only with right hand) fresh spring water – your soul and body and will purify. On the way back, same rules applies (just keep quiet) and make a wish – if you have complied, your wish will come true ;)
So, where is this imaginary place?
Well, it is just a two hours drive from the capital town Stockholm Sweden. Kolarbyn is outside the village of Skinnskatteberg, in the middle of green forest of Bergslagen. If you don’t have a car…don’t worry, you can also get here easily with public transportation

Tanum (Sweden) Vacation Travel Video Guide

On the west coast of Sweden, north of Gothenburg and set amid rolling hills, is a small reconstructed Bronze Age village, the museum village of Tanum. Beginning in the third millennium B.C., the North European Bronze Age reached Scandinavia and transformed the structure of society. The people built settlements and lived together in huts as extended families. There was livestock and agriculture and village communities began to trade with those who were able to produce bronze tools and weaponry. Prehistoric images have been discovered in Tanum, impressive archaeological finds that date back to the Bronze Age. The images are to be found across a large area and are carved in shallow rock mounds, worked by stone tools. Today most of the carvings have been highlighted with red paint in order to make them more visible. Vitlycke is the most visited location and one of the largest with three hundred images. From a hill, several of the images that date back to the Last Ice Age can be seen. There are around forty thousand, the most common being of boats. The rock carvings of Tanum are vibrant, beautiful and varied and among the world’s most beautiful cultural treasures.

Wolf Tracking near Skinnskateberg, Sweden
A wolf-tracking tour from Skinnskateberg in Sweden, where we found fresh wolf tracks in the snow and some recent kills as well as some breathtaking winter scenery including frozen lakes.
The gray wolf has been reintroduced in recent years and it's population is now estimated to be over 400 wolves; they are very shy and elusive however and it is very rare to see or encounter them in the wild but finding fresh tracks and kill means they cannot be too far away.
Other wildlife in the forests here is supposed to include bears, lynxes, wolverines then elk, moose and many more while wolves are also known to feed on rabbits.
