Songkhla is one of the southern provinces of Thailand. Neighboring provinces are Satun, Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Pattani, and Yala. To the south it borders Kedah and Perlis of Malaysia. In contrast to most other provinces, the capital Songkhla is not the largest city in the province. The much newer city of Hat Yai, with a population of 359,813, is considerably larger, with twice the population of Songkhla . Thale Noi Non-Hunting Area is a protected fresh water wetland located in Phatthalung province, southern Thailand. Covering an area of 460 km², the wetlands are situated approximately 20 km inland from the east coast peninsula of the Gulf of Thailand and 115 km north of the Malaysian border in Satun province. Thale Noi Non-Hunting Area is one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in South East Asia. It is the smallest, northernmost basin in the chain of lagoons that form Songkhla Lake, spreading across three provincial boundaries into Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla provinces and is home to the critically endangered Irrawaddy dolphin .

Hat Yai Junction is an international railway junction and a Class 1 railway station for the State Railway of Thailand in the centre of Hat Yai City, Songkhla Province, Thailand. The station is located 928.585 km from Bangkok's Thon Buri railway station and serves as a junction for the mainline Southern Line towards Pattani, Yala and Sungai Kolok and the Butterworth, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore Line . The station also includes a large locomotive depot adjacent to the station. Hat Yai Junction encouraged Hat Yai's economic boom and growth, making the city larger than the province's capital Songkhla.

This Episode 5 will bring you to join my one day in Songkhla City trip. This is the last episode of my Best in Hatyai Songkhla Thailand series. During my trip to Hatyai, I manage to allocate one day to travel to Songkhla City which is one hour car journey away from Hat Yai city.

This finale of my Best in Hatyai Songkhla series will bring you another dimension of experience that differ from others episodes as this is the sole video that explore area that is beyond Hatyai Thailand.

Both Hatyai and Songkhla City are located in Songkhla Province in Thailand. So please do not confuse with Songkhla and Songkhla City. While Hatyai famous as shopping paradise and street food heaven, Songkhla City is well known for its history, seaside view, natural scenary as well as magnificent old city. If you love heritage and wonderful nature scenery, then Songkhla is a must visit.
