Piedmont Region, Travel and Tourism , Biella & Sordevolo (Italy)

Nestling in the north-western corner of Italy, Piedmont has much in common with its neighbouring countries (France and Switzerland) as well as with its neighbouring Italian regions of Lombardy and Liguria. It has no coastline, though the southern reaches are just a few kilometres away from the Mediterranean, via the western reaches of Liguria and resorts such as Savona. A remarkably varied region, Piedmont has plenty to offer those on vacation in Italy.
In its northern reaches, Piedmont (or Piemonte) rises up to the Alps and thence over the border to France and Switzerland. The name 'pied monte' literally means 'at the foot of the mountains'. There is good skiing of course and this Alpine flavour is part of the reason Piedmont feels so un-Italian. The local dialects still bear strong inflections from the French that was the native language here until the turn of the 20th century. Meanwhile, the cuisine.

Since some people asked, the inn we stayed at is called Osteria del Maiale Pezzato. This is their website:


The place is nice but as a warning, the food in the evening is overpriced, you are better to eat at a restaurant elsewhere where you won't have a surprise at the end on your bill. Breakfast was also pretty shoddy. But overall the inn is beautiful, very peaceful and clean, good beds, and the owner is friendly and hospitable.

WE DID A WINE TRAVEL TO BAROLO. AND THIS HAPPENED!

We went to wine area of Piedmont. Which is an UNESCO Wine Region and on the World Heritage List. Barolo and Barbaresco are made her. And these are the spots you definitely need to visit when you are going to this extremely beautiful area.

We are still living in our van but also baby sitting a dog and house of friends in Italy till the beginning of augustus.
