In this episode, David takes us on a day trip 11 kilometers from Novi Sad, Serbia to the charming wine town of Sremski Karlovci in the Vojvodina Province. The best part about this place is that it's easy to explore by foot as you go from one wine tasting to another. There are several wineries and rakia producers here, many of which are family-owned and operated. The town has a long history in winemaking - Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius planted the first vines here in the year 273 A.D.
Without further ado, David starts on his wine-tastic journey through Sremski Karlovci, plus takes us to a great lookout point and a delicious cake shop.
First stop is the Benišek-Veselinović Wine Cellar and Matchbox Museum to taste some amazing fruit and nut-flavored rakias. Owner Yovanna cooked a traditional Serbian breakfast to accompany the rakia samplings, which you could reserve too for approximately 500 Serbian dinar ($5) per person. Buying a bottle to take home makes for a special and inexpensive memento (10 euro). Perhaps, like David, your favorite will be the walnut-flavored rakia. As you taste test, feel free to walk around and admire the hundreds of vintage matchboxes - a collection that Yovanna's stepmother started many years ago.
The second stop of the day is to the famous Beekeeping Museum and the Wine House Živanović (86b Mitropolita Stratimirovića Street, +381(0)21882849; +381(0)62521061) to sample delicious wines, organic honey and check out the onsite Beekeeping Museum. Of their many wines, the red Probus, white Tamjanika, and red Bermet varieties are David's top picks.
After working up a little buzz, David heads into the main square to taste traditional Kuglof cake - bundt cakes that originated in 17th century Germany. They make fantastic housewarming gifts and souvenirs (if you can refrain from eating the whole thing before you get home). The Kuglof cakes in Sremski Karlovci are made with the strong Bermet wine (17% alcohol). David enters Musej Geas Kuglof to see the Kuglof cake being made by local baker, Gia. A few simple ingredients, good quality chocolate and local Bermet wine combine to give Gia's Kuglof cake a delicate and rich flavor.
The best way to end a day in Sremski Karlovci is by heading up to the Panorama spot for a bird's eye view of the town and the Danube River. Remember if you would like to reserve a wine tasting at any of the wineries, you can do that by emailing them directly, or if you're in town, take a moment to stop into the Sremski Karlovci Municipal Tourist Organization (7 Branka Radicevica Street, Tel: +381 21 882 127, 883 855) located in the main square.

In this episode, David takes us around Serbia's second largest city to discover the top things to see and do in Novi Sad, Serbia. Novi Sad is the capital city of the northern Vojvodina Province - an area home to several nationalities including Hungarians, Croatians, Slovakians, and more...
First stop, David meets up with local guide Milos in the main square of the city in Liberty Square center. Milos explains the origins of Novi Sad: The city was founded in the 17th century and now is the second largest city in Serbia.
The Name of Mary Catholic Church is situated in the heart of the city, in the center of Liberty Square. It's Neo Gothic architecture is quite striking, and if you happen to get lost you could always find your way back to Liberty Square by using the church as a landmark.
Surrounding the church are several 19th century buildings built in Hungarian style. Next stop is the pedestrian-friendly boulevard, Zmaj Jovina Street. Lined with shops and sidewalk cafes, it is the very place for a coffee or light lunch.
Milos and David head on their way to the 17th century Petrovaradin Fortress on the Danube River. This is the second largest fortress in Europe. They first pass through Danavska Street (Danube Street), the oldest street in the city. Once they arrive at the base of Petrovaradin Fortress they make their way up the 200 steps.
From the top of fortress you'll get excellent views of the Danube River and the city of Novi Sad. Petrovaradin Fortress also features a gourmet restaurant and is where the annual EXIT Music Festival takes place each summer. It is one of the largest and most popular music festivals in Europe.
The clock tower in the fortress has become an icon of sorts for the city. It has jokingly been referred to as the drunk tower because it is slow in the summer and fast in the winter. Another interesting feature about the clock tower is that unlike other clocks, the small hand counts the minutes and the big hand counts the hours. Make time to walk around the fortress - there are a handful of art galleries and shops to browse, plus you'll want to take in all the incredible views.
David's last stop on his tour of Novi Sad is the Museum of Vojvodina on Dunavska Street to learn about the history of the region from the Neolithic era until modern-day Novi Sad. Two of David's favorite exhibits were the intact golden Roman helmets and the 19th century traditional Serbian costume collection.

In this travel clip, David brings us to the Medieval Fortress of Smederevo, located in the city of Smederevo about 30 miles south of Belgrade. Completed in 1439, this palace and walled-in city is one of Europe’s largest flat-ground fortresses, spanning an area of nearly 10.5 acres. When the capital of Belgrade fell to the Hungarian Empire, Smederevo’s Fortress was built with the intention of being the next capital of Serbia. Requiring an extraordinary amount of manpower and time to build, this compound stands as quite the controversial structure in Serbia’s history. Ultimately falling to the Turks/Ottomans in the late 15th century, the fortress wasn’t returned to Serbia until the mid-late 19th century. If you love European history and exploring medieval structures, this fortress is a must-see!

I've been to Serbia twice now and I really enjoyed it! Belgrade's floating river clubs can give any city in the world a run for its money in terms of nightlife. Food and drinks are incredibly cheap in Serbia and you can actually afford eating in fancy restaurants. Skadrlija is an awesome bohemian street that is filled with musicians and great food. People in Serbia were super friendly all around - in cities and small villages. One day I came to a tailor asking them in English if they could fix something small, the tailor said okay and after he fixed it, he refused any kind of payment. In US I would've surely been ripped off regardless if I was a local or tourist. The nature in rural areas of Serbia were absolutely breathtaking. Tara national park and Uvac reserve were incredible. The best part? There are barely any tourists. You are not lost in masses, people aren't trying to sell you stuff and offer taxis on every corner. You can get an authentic experience. Fruška Gora je, pre svega, pogodna za pešacenja i izlete u prirodu. Najveća pešacka staza koja prolazi kroz brojna sela i na kojoj se nalaze gotovo svi planinarski domovi jeste staza fruškogorskog maratona. Oznake se najčešće nalaze na drveću, u obliku kruga ispunjenog belom bojom u kome je nacrtano crveno srce. Ako se držite ovog znaka, sigurno pre ili kasnije stižete negde. Najpoznatija izletišta su Stražilovo (kod Sremskih Karlovaca), zatim Testera (u blizini sela Čerević), Popovica, Cortanovacka suma, Iriski Venac, Hopovo, Zmajevac, Letenka...
Odmor je moguć u više planinarskih domova koji imaju veoma pristupačne cene, i manjih hotela. Mesto Vrdnik poznato je po banji i izvoru tople mineralne vode, a brojna fruškogorska sela čuvena su po svojim vinima.
Na Fruškoj Gori se nalazi veliki broj kulturno istorijskih spomenika. Najpoznatiji i najvredniji su fruškogorski manastiri, koje je podizala despotska porodica Branković, nastavljajući kult stare i slavne Nemanjićke države. Ova planina je sa mnogobrojnim skirvenim udolinama bila pravo mesto za osnivanje manastira. Na Fruškoj Gori je nekada bilo 35 srpskih pravoslavnih manastira, od kojih je danas sačuvano 16 manastira, od kojih su samo neki iz videa manastir Novo Hopovo, Krusedol, Grgeteg, Velika Remeta...

Fruska Gora is, above all, suitable for hiking and excursions to nature. The largest pedestrian walkway that passes through many villages and where almost all mountain huts are located is the trail of the Fruska Gora marathon. The most famous excursion sites are Strazilovo (near Sremski Karlovci), then Tester (near the village Cerevic), Popovica, Cortanovac forest , Iriski Venac, Hopovo, Zmajevac, Letenka ...
Vacation is possible in several mountain huts with very affordable prices, and smaller hotels. The town of Vrdnik is famous for its spa and its source of warm mineral water, and numerous Fruska Gora villages are famous for their wines.
There are a large number of cultural and historical monuments on Fruska Gora. The most famous and most valuable are the monasteries of Fruska Gora, which were built by the Despot family Brankovic, continuing the cult of the old and famous Nemanjic state. This mountain, with many corridors, was the place to establish a monastery. At Fruska Gora, there were once 35 Serbian Orthodox monasteries, of which 16 monasteries have been preserved today, some of which are from the video: Novo Hopovo, Krusedol, Grgeteg, Velika Remeta ...
