Starting in Deer Lake I went on a 8 day road trip to experience the highlights in the East of Newfoundland and the South of Labrador. The itinerary shown is the perfect option to experience the diversity of the Rock and the Big Land in one single trip.
Beside some hiking and a boat tour on the Western Brook Pond at the Gros Morne National Park I went on a whale and iceberg expedition at Battle Harbour, visited vikings in L'anse aux Meadows and went kayaking in Steady Brook.
All activities and things to do in Newfoundland and Labrador covered here are easy to access by car making it a perfect road trip where you spend each night at a different spot.

Corner Brook Cave Adventure
By Peter Bull, Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism
Went on a little adventure with Ronan and Cormac to the Corner Brook Caves. These caves are just on the outskirts of Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. We chose one of the shorter caves, the perfect length for our first trip out. This spelunking adventure did show us the importance of taking an extra light! We can't wait to go back and explore one of the longer ones.

Groomed Snowmobile Ride, Steady Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador (by Peter Bull)
The west coast of Newfoundland has no shortage of winter activities to keep a recreation generalist like me occupied. Its not that I get tired of doing one thing, I just want to experience as much as possible in this life. Over the St. Patricks Day weekend, I did just that by engaging in four different snow sports in a four day period.
On Day 1, my neighbour Gavin and I went back-country snowmobiling to Grand Lake, crossing the American Man and Yellow Marsh on the way. With over 90% of the Province owned by the Crown and publicly accessible, there is a lot of country available to adventuresome snowmobilers to explore.
On Day 2 my family and I went to Blow Me Down Trails to cross-country ski. I skied to the Gazebo to check out its famous food fair. The Gazebos volunteer staff were quick to note that it has been recognized as a place everyone should go before they die. Having been there, I agree with that assertion.
On Day 3, my family met up with my wifes siblings and their children at Marble Mountain for a day of down hill skiing and snowboarding. Marble Mountain has a run for everyone, from novice to expert. We ended our day on the chalets deck relaxing and watching snowboarders and skiers in the afternoon sunshine.
The sunshine filled days we enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing carried over to Day 4 when my sons and I went snowmobile trail riding behind Marble Mountain. In contrast to my Day 1 back-country ride, we were on trails groomed by the Newfoundland and Labrador Snowmobile Federation. We cooked bannock over a campfire and had a fantastic day riding the highway-like trails.

With hundreds of unique dialects of English, there's a reason we have our own dictionary. Hear Michelle talk about the curiously named Figgy Duff, a local delicacy that's boiled in a bag.
