Railfanning Corcoran - 12/14/17
In continuation of my railfanning series of Amtrak's San Joaquin route coinciding with my trip home to SoCal, I made my way out to the city of Corcoran after railfanning at Madera earlier in the day. The Corcoran Amtrak Station is situated rather in the heart of agricultural land where no major highways run near or through the town, including Hwy 99. The original station doesn't exist anymore, however it is very pleasant to see that the city rebuilt and replicated the old station, including an AT&SF shaped logo (although not the exact one) in addition to retaining most of the original architectural style from the old station. Furthermore, the Corcoran station is also rather interesting such that there is a road crossing literally at the southern end of the platform, making for some intriguing train stops and departures as well as some great horn action. After railfanning at Corcoran, this would wrap up my day where I would spend the night in Delano and resume my railfanning the next morning at Wasco (with a special surprise) and finally finishing at Bakersfield.
Train 1 : BNSF H-MODBAR1-14A with ES44C4 #6674, C44-9W #4915(DPU), & ES44AC #6306(DPU). I surprisingly caught this train earlier at Madera and manged to beat it to Corcoran. Interesting seeing this engine consist with only a single unit on point and two DPU’s. (Although it is assumed through observation that only one DPU was running.)
Train 2 : Amtrak 710 with NPCU #90225 & SC-44 #2101. Plenty of nice horn action from the engineer when arriving and departing out of Corcoran !
Train 3 : BNSF H-BARRIC1-14A with ES44DC #7234, C44-9W #1106, ES44AC #4826(KCS), C44-9W #1065, ES44DC #7351(DPU), & ES44C4 #6836(DPU). Friendly crew with some extra horn action and a Kansas City Southern locomotive in the consist as well !
Train 4 : Amtrak 717 with F59PHI #2006 & CabCar #6964. Friendly engineer on 717 with some nice sounding horn action arriving and departing !
Train 5 : Amtrak 712 with CabCar #8312 & P42DC #13. Nice crew with some good horn action departing as well as a P42DC chugging on the rear !
