LONDON: Fulham
LONDON: Fulham is an affluent area of the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham in South West London, England, 3.7 miles (6.0 km) south-west of Charing Cross. It lies on the north bank of the River Thames, between Hammersmith and Kensington and Chelsea, facing Wandsworth, Putney and the Barn Elms part of Barnes.
Fulham has a history of industry and enterprise dating back to the 15th century, with pottery, tapestry-weaving, paper-making and brewing in the 17th and 18th centuries in present-day Fulham High Street, and later involvement in the automotive industry, early aviation, food production, and laundries.
Lillie Bridge Depot, a railway engineering depot opened in 1872, is associated with the building and extension of the London Underground, the electrification of Tube lines from the nearby Lots Road Power Station, and for well over a century has been the maintenance hub for rolling stock and track.
Fulham has a reputation as one of the most sought-after locations in London and has the highest capital values per square foot of prime South West London. Fulham is considered a prime London area by estate agents.
Two football clubs, Fulham and Chelsea, play in Fulham. There are two exclusive sporting clubs, the Hurlingham Club, known for polo, and the Queen's tennis club, known for its annual pre-Wimbledon tennis tournament.
STEAM - Welsh Marches Steam - 2015
DETAILS OF TRAINS, ENGINES, LOCATIONS AND DATES ARE LISTED BELOW:
I am amazed I managed to get any footage at all for this year’s activities after the fiasco surrounding the main operator of the UK's steam trains ie the West Coast Railway Company (WCRC). What a way to run a company!!!
For those who do not know, WCRC was banned from operating any trains whatsoever around about Spring 2015. This was after a very serious safety infringement, and was essentially for gross bad management of the company which exposed their customers and everybody else's at risk
Consequently many tours were cancelled which had a financial effect on the clients served (sic) by WCRC. In fact there was a great deal of speculation at all levels as to whether or not WCRC would ever be allowed to operate again
After many months in the doghouse the authorities relented and allowed WCRC back, but, to compound matters even more they even managed to get another suspension this Autumn 2015 for a similar infraction!!! What kind of a clown runs this company?
Anyway, I'm happy
The footage taken was again bolstered by Vintage Trains GWR engines/trains operating out of Tyseley (thank heavens)
Also, without Ian Riley's Black 5's substituting for non-available engines there would be a lot more disappointment. There were a couple of trains promoted with SR power up front, but they never materialised due to engine failure/unavailability. Understandable, but very disappointing - particularly if you were a passenger especially booking to travel behind such an engine. So hurrah for the Black 5's - gutsy, reliable little engines, making a good exhaust and sound for all and not letting anyone down
