Sv. Petar, (St. Peter) Makarska, Croatia Pictures by Armand Rroshi Photography
Sv. Petar (Sveti Petar, St. Peter) is a small peninsula at the port entrance of Makarska, Croatia. It is named after a 13th-century chunch of St. Peter. Today the peninsula serves as a city park and beach. The rocky beach on the outside of the peninsula is clothing optional but mostly used by naturists. Nearby the beach is the Sv. Petar lighthouse, built in 1884.
St. Peter lighthouse was built in 1884 on the peninsula of the same name that is placed at the entrance to the town of Makarska, in the vicinity of one of the most beautiful beaches on the Adriatic. The lighthouse is a 20 minute walk from the center of Makarska
THE STORY
It is not known who named the lighthouse after the saint, the first apostle and martyr who also holds the key to heaven's gate. Nevertheless, this magnificent peninsula and the lighthouse on it resemble heaven due to beautiful beaches, crystal clear sea and Biokovo Mountain in the background.
The town of Makarska is one of the best known tourist destinations on the Adriatic and, apart from its beaches, offers many sports activities. The vicinity of Makarska, with numerous places to go out to, makes this lighthouse an exclusive holiday destination.
We recommend to those traveling by car one-day trips to Biokovo and its highest peak Sv. Jure, where you can try paragliding and enjoy the most beautiful sunsets in this part of Europe. An asphalt road leads to Biokovo and there are road signs that will safely take you to a well-kept belvedere.
Makarska has long been known as the main hideout for many couples in love. The favorite place of all couples in love is the peninsula of Saint Peter.
The peninsula is interesting because of its pristine nature of narrow paths, benches where Lovebirds often enjoy the sunset and often welcome the summer mornings when the sun appears above Mt.
For all that he was born an interesting custom, namely couples have begun to prove their love to leave a locked padlock on the fence below the statue of St. Peter, as proof of his love, and then he threw the keys into the sea.
Love locks on the St.. Peter in Makarska
Love locks on the St.. Peter in Makarska
It is very interesting that the fence with a padlock is located just below the statue of St. Peter holding a key. Is it a coincidence or not, time will tell, and if you want your love lasts forever definitely worth a try. Come to Makarska and lock their love forever
