    The Bernina railway is a single-track 1,000 mm metre gauge railway line forming part of the Rhaetian Railway . It links the spa resort of St. Moritz, in the Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, with the town of Tirano, in the Province of Sondrio, Italy, via the Bernina Pass. Reaching a height of 2,253 metres above sea level, it is the highest railway crossing in Europe and the third highest railway in Switzerland.     Nufenen Pass is the highest mountain pass with a paved road within Switzerland. It lies between the summits of Pizzo Gallina and the Nufenenstock . The pass road from Ulrichen in canton of Valais leads to the Bedretto valley in the canton of Ticino, linking Brig to Airolo. It is not the lowest pass between the two valleys, as it is located one kilometre north of a slightly lower unnamed pass at 2,440 metres, which is traversed by a trail. The pass is of relatively recent construction, having been opened to motor vehicle traffic only since September 1969.To the east of the top of the pass is the source of the Ticino River. Towards the north are views of the Bernese Alps, including the Finsteraarhorn while there is a view over the Gries Glacier to the south.

    The Aletsch Glacier or Great Aletsch Glacier is the largest glacier in the Alps. It has a length of about 23 km , has about a volume of 15.4 km3 , and covers about 81.7 km2 in the eastern Bernese Alps in the Swiss canton of Valais. The Aletsch Glacier is composed of four smaller glaciers converging at Concordia Place, where its thickness was measured by the ETH to be still near 1 km . It then continues towards the Rhône valley before giving birth to the Massa. The Aletsch Glacier is – like most glaciers on this world – a retreating glacier.
