It lies at an elevation of 6250 feet .The site was surveyed in 1863, and Tahoe House was built in 1864. The Tahoe post office opened in 1871, closed for a period in 1896, and changed its name to Tahoe City in 1949. The ZIP Code is 96145. Tahoe City is combined with Sunnyside for census purposes into Sunnyside-Tahoe City census-designated place .
