March 2006 - From Moscow to Siberia, Baikal Icy Crossing
Early March 2006, I arrived in Moscow. After 2 days, I took the Transiberian Express to Irkutsk (5153km further, 5 time zones). Small bus led me to Listvianka, on the Baikal shores. The 1600m deep lake is completely frozen at that period. I decided to cross it, during a 50h walk and 2 nights spent in a tent. I reached the other side in Tankhoy. I took back the train to Ulan-Ude. Ivolginsk datsan Buddhist temples were also on the list. Time to reach Moscow. Train led me to Iekaterinbourg , then Kazan in Tatarstan, and finally back in Moscow.
