Top 5 Cities in Baja California Norte | Tijuana, Tecate, Ensenada, Rosarito & Mexicali
We've spent a ton of time in Baja California since we live in San Diego, which is right across the border. To wrap up some of our favorite places to visit, we thought we'd make a roundup video on our top 5 favorite cities in Baja California Norte. These are in NO particular order, and we've linked to the blog posts below if you want to learn more details :)
1. Tijuana: This is one of Baja California's funnest cities to visit, including the El Vergel waterpark which is home to the FAMOUS Slip N Fly waterslide.
2. Tecate: We were surprised at how much we love this charming town. Check out the Tecate Brewery and Miguel Hidalgo for fun things to do, and grab a margarita on the beautiful patio at Meson TKT.
3. Ensenada: One of Baja California's most diverse cities, check out the street food scene or go wine tasting in Valle de Guadalupe.
4. Rosarito: This is the perfect beach getaway that also has some of the best tacos ever from Tacos El Yacqui.
5. Mexicali: This border city has some of the best Chinese food outside of China!

Why go to Torreón Mexico? (A Guide for Gringos)
Torreon Mexico isn't in the guide books, but it should be! It's definitely a place worth stopping in to visit. It's known as the land of the noas where the cactus noa grows. It's part of the Laguna region in Coahuila Mexico.
Top sites to visit would be: Cristo de las Noas, Canal de la Perla, Arocena Museum, el Bosque Park.
Best shopping: Cimaco, Mercado Juarez

MEXICALI CHINESE FOOD | Baja's Best Kept Secret
We were shocked when we first heard that Mexicali, Mexico is supposed to have some of the best Chinese Food outside of China! After doing a little research, we found out that Mexicali historically has had the largest Chinese population in Mexico. So the delicious Chinese food makes sense.
We couldn't resist trying Mexicali's Chinese food, so we decided to do a food tour! At the countless Mexicali Chinese Food restaurants that we tried, we learned that Mexicali's Chinese food really is delicious.

ENSENADA STREET FOOD | Eating The Best Seafood in Baja California
We spent the day trying the best street food that Ensenada has to offer. The verdict? It's all amazing, and it's probably the best seafood we've had in all of Baja California.
Ensenada's street food is actually pretty famous, with Anthony Bourdain making a visit to try it out many years ago. We love how delicious yet affordable it is. In Ensenada, everyone can eat good--even when you're on a budget.
Over the course of a few hours, we tried the street food from: La Guerrerense, Mariscos El Guero, Carnitas Hermanos Ramirez, and Tacos Don Zefe.

Experience the joy of serving together as an intergenerational team in Tecate Mexico.
We are currently putting together a team of people who will be spending a long weekend in Tecate Mexico from April 8-11 2010, and we would like YOU to join us! While we are down there we will be doing several building projects, including building a home for a family, as well as running a VBS for the boys from Rancho San Juan Bosco Orphanage. People of all ages are invited to attend, and we are particularly in need of skilled builders but will take any skill level.

Qué visitar en Tecate Pueblo Mágico
Tecate es un Pueblo Mágico con sabor pintoresco y ambiente colonial, cuyos días giran en torno al monte sagrado Cuchumá, adorado por los kumiai, el principal grupo étnico. Su paisaje se define por vastos campos para la ganadería, impactantes montañas, colosales estructuras rocosas y bosques de pino y encino.
Entre sus aspectos representativos se encuentran: ser sede de una famosa cervecería, que se puede visitar en tours oficiales; numerosas panaderías de primer nivel; hermosos viñedos y olivos; y spas con tratamientos corporales exclusivos de reconocimiento internacional, como los que se ofrecen en el Rancho La Puerta, que han hecho sobresalir a Tecate como un destino turístico para la salud.
Tecate, tan cercano a la frontera con los Estados Unidos, brinda a los vacacionistas un entorno sumamente apacible y un clima mediterráneo bastante fresco, recomendable para el descanso y la diversión, con temperaturas que oscilan entre los 12 y los 22 grados centígrados, lluvias escasas durante el verano y bellos inviernos con ligeras nevadas.
En Tecate es factible hallar muchos parques recreativos estilo ranchería, como el histórico Rancho Tecate, que brinda a los visitantes la posibilidad de gozar del campo y de sus servicios de alojamiento, alimentación y paseos turísticos. Además, en este Pueblo Mágico abundan los espacios para acampar y los paraderos para remolques.
Esta comunidad bajacaliforniana organiza diversos eventos anuales, entre los que destaca la Feria Tecate en Marcha, donde los asistentes pueden disfrutar cada agosto conciertos al aire libre, eventos deportivos y culturales, juegos mecánicos, exposición y venta de productos locales, muestra gastronómica, show de globos aerostáticos y un popular certamen de belleza.
Lo imperdible en Tecate Pueblo Mágico
Tecate ocupa un sitio privilegiado dentro del territorio de Baja California. Se levanta sugestivo entre el vasto mar y el fascinante desierto, en un ambiente de árboles, ríos y montañas. Las formas más recomendables de disfrutarlo son el ecoturismo en contacto directo con la naturaleza, o la relajación intensa en alguno de sus célebres ranchos - spa.
Se trata de un municipio en donde se pueden hacer largas caminatas en medio de gratos ambientes tranquilos y seguros, en especial por el amable trato de los lugareños. Destaca la Ruta del Vino, ofrecida por varios operadores turísticos que llevan a los turistas a pasear por las vinícolas del Valle Tanamá, el Valle de Guadalupe y el Valle de las Palmas, y otros más lejanos como el Valle Rosa de Castilla, San Valentín y el Rancho Ciénega Redonda.
Recorrer los senderos del Parque Miguel Hidalgo o sentarse en sus bancas y áreas verdes a observar el paisaje de la ciudad en una agradable y relajante tarde, tomarse un café en Casa París o subirse al tren turístico Tijuana - Tecate son otras de las actividades imperdibles en este lugar de arquitectura colonial y vibrante vida cultural.
Si lo que se busca es relajarse y contemplar espectaculares paisajes, en los numerosos ranchos de Tecate se puede pasear a caballo, recorrer olivares y viñedos, nadar, practicar yoga, purificarse en un temazcal, recibir tratamientos alternativos como aromaterapia o barroterapia, y disfrutar hermosas mañanas en cabañas cubiertas por el rocío o por la nieve, entre muchas otras cosas.
Para conocer más sobre la historia de este Pueblo Mágico, resultan invaluables las colecciones del Museo Comunitario Kumiai, que además de rendir homenaje a los nativos de la zona, tiene un espacio dedicado a la época de las rancherías donde se pueden apreciar fotos del Tecate antiguo y objetos como lámparas de aceite y televisores de bulbos.
Otro de los sitios más interesantes y llenos de historia es el Museo de Vallecitos, que muestra petroglifos y pinturas rupestres con figuras geométricas, zoomorfas y antropomorfas. Uno de sus principales atractivos es la figura de El Diablito”, un hombre con una especie de tocado o sombrero que se asemeja a unos cuernos, que señala cada 21 de diciembre el solsticio de invierno.
Se puede experimentar al máximo la cultura tecatense si se visita en tiempos de festividades tradicionales, entre las que destacan la Danza de la Primavera que los kumiai celebran en marzo, la Romería de Verano que tiene lugar cada julio en los patios de la Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, el Desfile de Luces Navideñas con carros alegóricos decorados por empresas, gobierno y estudiantes de la localidad, y la espectacular fiesta de la Virgen de Guadalupe cada 12 de diciembre.
