Flight over Temiskaming Shores, Haileybury, Ontario, Canada 2017 4K
Temiskaming Shores is a city in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It was created by the amalgamation of the town of New Liskeard, the town of Haileybury, and the township of Dymond in 2004. The city had a total population of 9,920 in the Canada 2016 Census. Temiskaming Shores is Ontario's second-smallest city, in terms of population, after Dryden. Haileybury is the seat of Timiskaming District. Prior to the amalgamation of Temiskaming Shores, the region was commonly nicknamed The Tri-Towns, a designation that also encompassed the neighbouring town of Cobalt. Cobalt was also part of the original Temiskaming Shores amalgamation plan, but rejected the merger. The Tri-Towns designation may still be used on occasion, but has become significantly less common since the municipal amalgamation. In the Canada 2001 Census, the last Canadian census before the amalgamated city came into effect, New Liskeard had a population of 4,906, Haileybury had a population of 4,543, and Dymond had a population of 1,181. Intrepid Cottager Sea-Doo Tour: Ottawa River, Ontario, Canada
Our Ottawa River Sea Doo Tour Blast in Ontario came off without a hitch thanks to some great planning and cooperation from tourism folks at Ottawa Valley, Mattawa and Temiskaming Shores. Even Mother Nature lent a hand with good weather, so we were a weary but ecstatic crew after 4-days and 650 km of Sea-Doo touring (+50 more riding for the cameras!)
We launched from Pembroke Marina after staying overnight at the Best Western Pembroke. I really like this as a staging hotel because it's a full service with the Westwinds Restauranton site and has lots of parking for trucks and trailers by the back door close to rooms. It's located only seven minutes from the marina and gas is right across the road. Thanks to Lorraine for the welcome dinner and great hospitality!

Valois Motel, Mattawa
Our second night (and last overnight on the return trip) was at the Valois Motel & Restaurant, Mattawa. Since we arrived on the water, the riverside Valois is handy because it offers free docking, so we just tied up and walked a few yards to our rooms. Everyone raved about their home cooked meals and went ga-ga for their desserts like brownies and apple crisp! Bryan and his staff made us feel right at home!
The northern-most point of our PWC journey was Temiskaming Shores, where we stayed at the charming President's Suites, just a few blocks from the Haileybury Marina where we docked overnight. Our friendly hosts, Jocelyn and Nicole, shuttled us to their fabulous place, a classic mansion with modern amenities and even a hot tub. Their cuisine was out of this world!
If our lodgings were second to none, the mighty Ottawa was the star of the show. This historic and spectacular route is the original gateway to Northern Ontario used by native peoples, fur traders, loggers and miners to open the North and bring new found prosperity. Now, this easily navigable and well-serviced waterway is also an incomparable attraction for PWC riders and boaters looking for an exciting new wilderness adventure. So get your ass in gear and head to the Ottawa for the water experience of a lifetime!
Now that you know about it, no excuses, eh? All you have to do is use our itinerary as your template and check out my video of a previous trip, too -- and keep an eye on this site because there's much more story, video and photos to come!

Intrepid Cottager Sea-Doo Tour: St Joseph Island, Ontario, Canada
Day Three - Killarney: We toured out of the charming and bustling harbour of Killarnery, probably the best known and most popular of North Channel ports. Here, the renovated Sportsman's Inn provided luxurious lodgings and fabulous cuisine. We embarked from the nearby municipal launch.
This day, we cruised 22 kilometres (14 miles) west to Little Current on Manitoulin Island and then explored our way back to Killarney. One must-see highlight was an amazing hidden fjord called Baie Fiinn. It's an almost river-like passageway bounded by rock walls that runs about 13 kilometres (9 miles) to end in a clear, secluded pool favoured by boaters for overnight mooring.
Great Destination: The North Channel makes for spectacular and memorable Sea-Doo touring. It's a multi-day destination, which can be experienced in as little as three riding days as we did, or up to a week if you want to tour from one end to the other like Tim and Diane. My advice is that to do this tour, you should be an experienced touring rider who carries charts, GPS and spare fuel on board. As with any large marine touring region, it's also important to check the weather very carefully, and watch out for windy days when the big water can get quite rough. That said, there are lots of sheltered back areas to explore, but as usual in unfamiliar waters, be very careful about submerged rocks and shoals.
If you're looking for a new destination to ride, you gotta try the North Channel. My crew is already planning to go back and by the sound of it, so are Tim and Diane: As an adventurous couple from Ohio with some Sea-Doo touring experience, we loved every minute of our trip, and will visit definitely visit Ontario again by Sea-Doo. You bet!
