Places to see in ( Olbia - Italy ) San Pantaleo
San Pantaleo is a fraction of the town of Olbia , in the province of Sassari , and stands perched on the mountains, in the massif of Cugnana , from where it dominates the Costa Smeralda. Born in the early nineteenth century around a small manor , he saw a notable demographic development in 1894 following the concession of the parish by the bishop of Ampurias and Tempio Antonio Contini.
Already a fraction of Nuchis , in 1939, at the same time as the aggregation of this municipality in Tempio Pausania , it became a hamlet of Terranova Pausania, which in the same year took the name of Olbia. In recent decades, with the tourist development of Costa Smeralda, there has been a growing demographic and urban development of San Panteleo, which has radically changed its original appearance. A pro-autonomy committee has been active in San Pantaleo for years.
San Pantaleo today relies on seaside tourism part of its economy, once purely linked to breeding. Of the traditional pastoral vocation of the center remains traces in the traditional craft activities of wood , iron and ceramics. At San Pantaleo is located the La Smeraldina airfield, recognized by the National Agency for Civil Aviation (ENAC).

Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Aggius
Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Aggius
Aggius is a comune in the Province of Sassari in the Italian region Sardinia, located about 190 kilometres north of Cagliari and about 35 kilometres west of Olbia. Aggius borders the following municipalities: Aglientu, Bortigiadas, Tempio Pausania, Trinità d'Agultu e Vignola, Viddalba.
In the heart of the Gallura is a characteristic village that will strike you for the great care they take of their granite houses, considered among the most beautiful in all the region. One of the main activities of those who live in Aggius is the extraction and processing of granite, but the town is also known for its beautiful carpets and, more generally speaking, for its fine textiles. The Touring Club Italiano has awarded the town with a Bandiera Arancione (Orange Flag) in recognition of the characteristics of the historical centre, the beauty of its setting and the efficiency of its services for visitors.
Among the attractions is the town’s choir, famous for its remarkable sound and nicknamed “Choir of the Galluran Roosters” by the famous poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. Another highlight is the atmosphere created during Holy Week, when the small town becomes something of a Jerusalem and the streets fill with the faithful as members of the local lay brotherhoods clad in traditional garments walk in solemn procession. Aggius is one of the few towns in Gallura to have maintained this centuries-old tradition and the entire week from Palm Sunday through Easter celebrations are held in spectacular Spanish tradition.
Do not miss a visit to the museo etnografico named after Oliva Carta Cannas, home to original items and machinery that tell of the history, culture and traditions of the Gallura region. Another unique museum focuses attention on the phenomenon of Bandits and is housed at the palazzo of the ‘vecchia Pretura.’ The vast area surrounding Aggius is ideal for hiking among the characteristic stazzi (characteristic rural settlements) and archaeological sites. The Izzana nuraghe, Gallura’s largest, is especially interesting.

Places to see in ( Sardinia - Italy ) Capo Caccia Vertical Cliffs
Capo Caccia (in Catalan and Alghero Cap de la Caça ) is an imposing limestone promontory located in the north-western end of Sardinia , overlooking the bay of Alghero , and with the other limestone promontory of Alghero (abbreviation of the stratigraphic syntax of Sardinia: ALG ), Punta Giglio , encloses the large Gulf of Porto Conte . The meteorological station of Capo Caccia is located there and, due to its position, it has a lighthouse, which thanks to its height, 186 meters above sea level , is one of the most visible at a distance, about 34 miles, all over Italy and the Mediterranean .
Capo Caccia owes its name to the hunts pigeon that 800 notables were making the boat through calms around the headland, from which top you can see the wide gulf of Alghero and the nearby island of Foradada that constitute one of the most beautiful and evocative views of the island. It is possible to observe along all the cliffs the eagle of the bonelli , the peregrine falcon , the royal gull and course , the procellaria , the swifts. In recent times it has been declared a permanent oasis of wildlife protection with great benefit of the various species present both above and below the water. Currently, throughout the entire area, the Marine Protected Natural Area of Capo Caccia - Isola Piana , the marine reserve, and the Porto Conte Park, the regional terrestrial park, with unique fauna and flora, such as the imposing griffin, insist .
Capo Caccia is also known for the presence of many sea caves in the lower part of the promontory that were once frequented by numerous families of monk seal , now completely disappeared especially for the cruel hunting that the fishermen in strong competition with this species, have accomplished in the early twentieth century . The most famous cave, which bears the name of the god of the seas, is that of Neptune while underwater is the famous and very popular, by divers, Grotta di Nereo , dedicated to the father of the black nymphs, and considered the largest marine cave submerged in the whole of the Mediterranean.

Places to see in ( Olbia - Italy ) Castello di Pedres
Places to see in ( Olbia - Italy ) Castello di Pedres
The castle of Pedres , sometimes also called Pedes Castle or Pedreso Castle , is a historic building located a few kilometers from the city of Olbia , once the seat of a privileged judicial residence. It is a fort, dating back to the Middle Ages , built in local stone in the mid-thirteenth century, during the Visconti period of the Giudicato di Gallura and later used by the Pisans to cope with the attack by the Aragonese .
Until 1296 it was a judge of Gallura Nino Visconti (he was also the last) who used it for military purposes. His daughter Giovanna, who could not succeed him, took over the real estate, including this castle. The fortress had the main function of defending Civita and the borders with the Giudicato of Torres .
Originally the castle was equipped with four towers and characterized by two squares, one upper and one lower, surrounded by polygonal walls , reachable through stairs built with large granite boulders. In the upper square there are two ruined rooms, one with a cross vault , a cistern for collecting rainwater, and the keep , which was originally divided into four floors and allowed to control the territory up to the gulf of Olbia. Access to the tower was about 6 meters high and took place using retractable wooden stairs .
In 1339 the castle was entrusted to the hospital friars of Saint John of Jerusalem . From the second half of the fourteenth century it was occupied by the Aragonese and then by the Giudicato of Arborea . He then met a definitive abandonment at the beginning of the fifteenth century, coinciding with the decline and depopulation of Civita (later Terranova Pausania ).
Most of the damage suffered by the fortress is due to negligence and abandonment in recent decades, but some are attributable to the bombing of the last war. In the years following the conflict, it was also used as a functional structure for the management of the nearby Olbia-Venafiorita airport .
