Mount Bromo is an active volcano in the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park on the island of Java, Indonesia. The view of the volcano sitting inside the 10 km wide Tengger caldera, and Mount Semeru behind, sending smoky clouds up every 20 minutes, is considered one of the most scenic volcano views in the world.
In the video: Sunrise views from the top of the nearby viewpoint on Mount Penanjakan; descending from the Tengger Crater rim and crossing Tengger caldera; views from the crater rim of Mount Bromo.

BROMO-SEMERU VOLCANIC MASSIF – The Greatest Scenery View in Indonesia
Bromo-Semeru Volcanic Massif is centre piece of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park which is located in East Java, Indonesia, southeast of Surabaya, the capital of East Java. The Park is the only conservation area in Indonesia that has a sand sea called “The Tengger Sand Sea”.
The Tengger Sand Sea lays inside one of the largest calderas in the World – The Tengger Caldera - which is 10 x 8,5 km in size with average depth over 110 meters. Inside of caldera towers group of four volcanoes Mt. Bromo, Mt. Batok, Mt. Kursi and Mt. Widodaren. Outside of the caldera lays Mt. Semeru (3.676 m) the highest mountain of Java. Both Mt. Bromo and Mt.Semeru are most active volcanoes in the complex with Mt. Bromo’s more than 60 eruptions since 1767.
From the observation point on the South side rim of the caldera there is spectacular view of this unique configuration of four volcanic cones with Mt.Semeru towering in the background. View is considered as most scenic and most photographed view in Indonesia not only because of unique configuration of all five volcanoes but also for other unusual attraction – caldera’s morning fogs – which are created mainly because caldera’s altitude of 2.100 m. Fogy mornings enhance this spectacular view since one can see different scenery configuration almost every single morning.
Morning fog movement in the caldera is demonstrated in the video together with Mt. Semeru post eruption smoke stretching across the top of the mountain.
View of Mt. Bromo crater’s acidic lake was taken in the period of volcano inactivity (volcano is erupting in Strombolian eruption in 5-8 years periods), while Mt. Semeru eruptions are documented in video by post eruption smoke on the top of the mountain. These small eruption occurred during my stay in half an hour periods.
I hope you will enjoy this different yet spectacular video
Cheers
Jiri

Mount Bromo (Indonesian: Gunung Bromo), is an active volcano and part of the Tengger massif, in East Java, Indonesia. At 2,329 metres (7,641 ft) it is not the highest peak of the massif, but is the most well known. The massif area is one of the most visited tourist attractions in East Java, Indonesia. The volcano belongs to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. The name of Bromo derived from Javanese pronunciation of Brahma, the Hindu creator god.
Mount Bromo sits in the middle of a vast plain called the Sea of Sand (Javanese: Segara Wedi or Indonesian: Lautan Pasir), a protected nature reserve since 1919. The typical way to visit Mount Bromo is from the nearby mountain village of Cemoro Lawang. From there it is possible to walk to the volcano in about 45 minutes, but it is also possible to take an organised jeep tour, which includes a stop at the viewpoint on Mount Penanjakan (2,770 m or 9,088 ft) (Indonesian: Gunung Penanjakan). The viewpoint on Mount Penanjakan can also be reached on foot in about two hours. From inside the caldera, sulfur is collected by workers.
Depending on the degree of volcanic activity, the Indonesian Centre for Vulcanology and Disaster Hazard Mitigation sometimes issues warnings against visiting Mount Bromo.
