STAVROS Beach Drone Chania Greece (Greek: Σταυρός) is a village and beach in the Akrotiri district of the city of Chania, Crete, Greece. The beach and surroundings was the place where in 1964 Michael Cacoyannis partly made the movie Zorba the Greek with Anthony Quinn.
On the northwest flank of the Akrotiri peninsular is Stavros (the Cross) – a sheltered bay with sand and turquoise waters. It is organized – umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and a lifeguard, and plenty of chances for water-sports.
It was here that Michaili Kakoiannis filmed ‘Zorba’, based on the book by Kazantzakis, which took three Oscars in 1964. The film is particularly remembered for the closing scene where Anthony Quin (Zorba) teaches Alan Bates (Basil) to dance the syrtaki.
Stavros is quite popular, and attracts its fair share of tourists in the summer. Nearby there is quite a large number – albeit smallish in size – of hotels, apartments and rooms to rent, many eating places, banks and shops.
Next to the beach is a small harbour that serves the area, whilst a short distance away to the east is another beach with sand and rocks alike. Quieter and less organized, it is open to the north winds that blow, Even so, you should go there, even if only to watch the magnificent sunset!

Souda is a small and picturesque holiday resort on the south coast of Crete (in the Rethymno region), in the south-central part of the island, near Plakias. The beach is located in the bay west of Plakias and near Plakias. This is nice and the beach with good water descent is located in a fairly deep bay and is covered with fine pebbles. There are taverns (Taverna Galini, Taverna Delfini, Alikes), where you can enjoy tasty meals and many apartments (Motel Amalia, Eolia Studios, Motel Akrogiali, Hotel Pelagos, Hotel Souda Mare, Hotel Phenix). At the eastern end of the bay there is a naturist beach.

Souda to niewielka i malownicza miejscowość wypoczynkowa położona na południowym wybrzeżu Krety (w jednostce regionalnej Retimno), w południowo centralnej części wyspy, w poblizu Plakias. Plaża położona jest w zatoce na zachód od miejscowości Plakias i w pobliżu Plakias. Ta przyjemna i plaża z dobrym zejściem do wody położona jest w dość głębokiej zatoce i pokryta jest drobnymi kamyczkami (żwirkiem). W pobliżu znajdują się tawerny (Taverna Galini, Taverna Delfini, Alikes), gdzie można zjeść smaczny posiłek oraz liczne apartamenty (Motel Amalia, Eolia Studios, Motel Akrogiali, Hotel Pelagos, Hotel Souda Mare, Hotel Phenix). Na wschodnim krańcu zatoki znajduje się plaża dla naturystów.

The beaches west of Chania - Saverio Pepe
A long sandy beach stretches to the West of Chania for many kilometres. Once almost uninhabited, this part of the coast has become the main tourist concentration in western Crete. The communes (they really cannot be called villages) of Stalos, Agia Marina and Platanias form a long succession of hotels, apartments, eateries, bars and tourist shops. The beaches are good but can be crowded.Platanias and Gerani are two towns that have become very developed because of their excellent beaches and their proximnity to Chania and are the most popular resorts on the western part of Crete. Across is the island of Agios Theodori which was heavily fortified by the Venetians in 1574 to keep the Turks from being able to land their ships at Platanias. Later it became the headquarters of General Timoleon Vassos in 1897 during the war of Independance from the Turks. Now it is a breeding center for the kri-kri, the wild Cretan mountain goat. Near the beach resort of Maleme where much of the fighting took place during World War Two is the German Military Cemetary which contains some 4000 graves, most of whom were the parachutists who were shot from below during the Battle of Crete. Inland is a vast area of agricultural villages, rivers, streams and hills. Just beyond the town of Kolimbari at the base of the rugged Rodopou Peninsula is the Monastery of Gonias, completed in 1634 and home to a collection of post Byzantine icons of interest to anyone with an interest in religious art, or any art for that matter. Further north in the village of Rodopos is a Venetian Villa. To continue north to the ruins of the Roman Sanctuary of Dyktina in the bay of Menies you may want to have a 4-wheel drive vehicle or a very understanding car rental company. But at the end of a rugged road the beach is worth it and is one of those places you can probably pitch a tent and nobody will bother you. An added attraction is the ancient Temple of Diana on the hill. For those not venturing so far north in the small village of Afrata is a wonderful little village taverna called Kali Kardia (Good Heart) run by Konstantinos Rethemiotakis where he and his wife cook and serve what will probably be the best traditional Cretan food you will find on the island.

The seaside village of Kalathas is located 12km northeast of Chania city, in a natural bay at the Cape Akrotiri, which is open to the north winds. Current Kalathas is a relatively new village, which has been inhabited by residents of Chania who wanted to live away from the city center.
The beach in front of the village is beautiful, with fine sand and shallow crystal clear water. Opposite Kalathas, there is a small island which you can easily reach by swimming. The beach is very well organized with umbrellas, water sports, restaurants, hotels, lifeguard, mini markets, etc. West of the main bay, beyond the rocky end, there is a secluded sandy bay. This is not organized and is ideal for those who do not like crowded places.

In 1964, in Stavros Beach, filmed scenes from the famous film Zorbas the Greek, starring Anthony Quinn. In Stavros Beach and background characteristic hill area, Zorbas danced the famous sirtaki, music by the Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis.

Το 1964, στον Σταυρό γυρίστηκαν σκηνές από την πασίγνωστη ταινία Ζορμπάς ο Έλληνας, με πρωταγωνιστή τον Anthony Quinn. Στην παραλία του Σταυρού, και με φόντο τον χαρακτηριστικό λόφο της περιοχής, ο Ζορμπάς χόρεψε το περίφημο ελληνικό συρτάκι σε μουσική του Μίκη Θεοδωράκη.
