This video is of our epic day on the Island of SABA. We board the 9h00 hight speed ferry with flat calm weather. Spend the day visiting and returned to Sint Maarten on the 15h30 ferry.

Saba is a Caribbean island and the smallest special municipality (officially public body) of the Netherlands.[4] It consists largely of the potentially active volcano Mount Scenery. Saba has a land area of 13 square kilometers (5.0 sq mi). As of January 2013, the population was 1,991 inhabitants, with a population density of 150 inhabitants per square kilometre (390/sq mi).[1] Its towns and major settlements are The Bottom (the capital), Windwardside, Hell's Gate and St. Johns.

AIRPORT: In 1963, Saba residents built the Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport. This 400-metre (1,300 ft) landing strip is reputed to be the shortest commercial runway in the world, and is restricted. Only trained pilots flying small STOL airliners, such as the Twin Otter and the Britten-Norman Islander may land there, as well as helicopters. Consistent air service from Sint Maarten and Sint Eustatius is available through Winair.

This is an edit I put together of my favorite shots from our week on the little volcanic Caribbean island of Saba. Big thanks to Sea Saba for an amazing week of scuba diving. Underwater shots were taken with GoPro Hero 4 silver in 2.7K 60fps. Aerial shots were done with DJI Mavic Pro. Panasonic GH5 1080p 180fps for slow motion shots.

Saba Island, hidden gem of the Caribbean

Located in the middle of the Caribbean, Saba is a tiny island, nonetheless worth a trip, even for a few days.
Known as the unspoiled queen of the Caribbean, it hosts surprising tropical rainforest, a myriad of birds and iguanas, and its waters are amazing for scuba diving.
With limited tourism, it is still a wild haven to visit and spend a few days chilling in the wilderness!

Saba Dive Sites - No.5 Shark Shoals - Dutch Caribbean

Mooring Depth: 40 feet (12m)
Maximum Depth: 80 feet (24m)

So named because of the hot water springs coming through vents in the sea floor, this dive site is proof positive that Saba's volcano is merely in between periods of eruption, not extinct. Pick a dive here! Head seaward from the mooring and then south over a series of coral heads separated by a sandy bottom. A huge anchor (one of several at this dive site) is a good point to turn inshore and back to the mooring. Alternatively, head seaward and then north for a shallower dive among the coral encrusted boulders before heading back to the mooring. Check out the extremely friendly resident Nurse Shark, Stingrays, Garden Eels hiding in the sand and Turtles grazing in the seagrass next to Flying Gunards.  A favorite site for night dives, crustaceans can always be spotted out dancing in front of their lairs. Other night dive highlights are octopus, sharks on the hunt and Ostracods, tiny crustaceans which create a one of a kind bio-luminescence display when they are mating.

A 3 to 4 hour hike, at about 2000 foot altitude on the Sandy Cruz Trail in Saba, will take you through a primary and secondary cloud and rain forest.
