Japan Travel guide | Hana Sansei | Chiba Tokyo| Indian in Japan
Chiba is a big prefecture, and I would say this place is located in the middle of it, sort of. The story goes back to the 16th Century. The Hojo family was defeated by Hideyoshi Toyotomi at Odawara, then the first shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa entered Edo (currently Tokyo), starting Edo Era. Ieayasu appointed Tadakatsu Honda at this castle, Otaki-jo, so that he could overpower the local Satomi family.
When you arrive at your ryokan, take off your shoes at the entrance and put on the slippers provided. The slippers are used for walking around inside the ryokan. Your shoes will be placed in the entrance when you want to go outside. If you want to take a short walk near the ryokan, you may wear the ryokan’s sandals or geta (wooden clogs) provided.

Tsumago was a post town on the Nakasendo route between Kyoto and Edo. It is known today as one of the best preserved post towns in Japan. The town and its residents go to great lengths to recreate the environment and atmosphere of the Edo Period. Cars are not allowed on the main street in the day and phone lines and power cables are kept concealed, so that visitors can imagine they have slipped back to an earlier time.
Tsumago also recreates the post town ambience by maintaining its Honjin and Wakihonjin. In all post towns, the Honjin was the principal inn and served government officials who were traveling through. When more accommodations were required, the Wakihonjin served to accommodate the travelers of lower status. Tsumago also maintains the office where laborers and horses were rented to aid in travel. Many minshuku and ryokan are located in the town, and a stay at one of them will greatly add to the illusion of having left the modern era. If time permits, it is highly recommended to hike a preserved trail of the former Nakasendo from Tsumago to Magome. It is well maintained and well marked in both Japanese and English.

Hakone Sekisho (Hakone checkpoint).
Hakone Sekisho (Hakone checkpoint), Hakone, Kanagawa prefecture.
Hakone used to be an important checkpoint to control traffic along the Tõkaidõ Road, the highway which linked Edo (Tõkyõ) with Kyõto during the feudal era.
The current gates, buildings and tower were constructed in 2007 based on drawings from the Tokugawa period. The Hakone checkpoint was the 10th of the 53 stations of the Tōkaidō Road from Edo (Tõkyõ).

Shibuya
A prominent landmark of Shibuya is the large intersection in front of the station's Hachiko Exit. The intersection is heavily decorated by neon advertisements and giant video screens and gets flooded by pedestrians each time the crossing light turns green, making it a popular photo and movie filming spot.
Nikko_ visited Taiyu-in.
This mausoleum is coupled with a Buddhist temple and a forest of wild cedars protects the whole complex. Taiyu-in houses the body of Tokugawa Iemitsu (1604-1651), the grandson of the first shogun. A shaded path marked out with lanterns leads to the mausoleum, whose oratory is surveyed by 140 dragons and a Chinese lion. The main hall, which precedes the tomb (closed to the public), has an abundance of ornamentation depicting flying dragons encircling a phoenix.
Tambara Lavender Park.
the highlands of Tambara are famous for skiing during the winter months but the summer months are punctuated by over 50,000 flowering lavender bushes
旧岩崎邸庭園と上野公園の名所めぐり 2014-9-18 | Around Ueno Park

■Ueno Park (上野公園 Ueno Kōen) is a spacious public park in the Ueno district of Taitō, Tokyo, Japan. The park was established in 1873 on lands formerly belonging to the temple of Kan'ei-ji. Amongst the country's first public parks, it was founded following the western example as part of the borrowing and assimilation of international practices that characterizes the early Meiji period. The home of a number of major museums, Ueno Park is also celebrated in spring for its cherry blossoms and hanami. In recent times the park and its attractions have drawn over ten million visitors a year, making it Japan's most popular city park
■The Shinobazu Pond (不忍池 Shinobazu no Ike) is a pond within Ueno Park (a spacious public park located in the Ueno section of Taitō, Tokyo, Japan), and a historically prominent Shitamachi feature often appearing in history and works of art. The park occupies the site of the former Kan'ei-ji, a temple closely associated with the Tokugawa shoguns, who had built it to guard Edo Castle against the northeast, a direction believed to be unlucky by traditional geomancy. The temple was destroyed during the Boshin War. The pond, although modified many times and even once drained, is natural.
■Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Garden (旧岩崎邸庭園 Kyū-Iwasaki-tei teien) is located in Taitō, Tokyo. It is the former estate of the Iwasaki clan who were the founders of Mitsubishi; the name Kyū-Iwasaki-tei means Old Iwasaki house. The premises have three buildings: a Western-style house designed by British architect Josiah Conder, a Japanese house and a billiard house, and cover an area of about 17,000 square metres.
