award-winning trout stream or right off the dock, explore one of the many bike routes or visit the famous Nantahala Outdoor Center for rafting, kayaking, biking and delicious food.

MISTY LAUREL CHALET is a spacious (2400 square foot) log-sided cabin that overlooks Lake Nantahala and the peaks of the Smoky Mountain National Park. On a ridgetop at 3600 feet, it's always cool and often breezy, so it's a great place to escape the summer heat!!
It's a wonderful place for families or couples, with a myriad of outdoor activities available nearby, including easy access to Lake Nantahala and to the Nantahala Outdoor Center. The NOC is known widely for the tremendous whitewater rafting and kayaking opportunities there. For hikers, the Bartram Trail passes nearby and intersects with the Appalachian Trail at Wayah Bald, which is just east of the cabin. Fishermen will enjoy stream or lake fishing nearby. Downhill skiing is available at Maggie Valley (Cataloochee Ski Area), only about 55 miles away.
For after-hours entertainment, there are two HD LCD TVs (32-inch and 46-inch) with HD DirecTV receivers, both with DVD players, plus a VCR.

October 2018 Trip to Standing Indian Campground.
Carole and I love Standing Indian Campground in the Nantahala National Forest near Franklin, NC. The last time we booked a site there we got sidetracked because of a government shutdown. We wanted site #13 for this trip, but it is so popular that it's very hard to book. So we took site #16, instead.
The day after we arrived the area was hit with torrential rain. So much rain that the picnic table at our site was flooded out and we had to take down our Quick-Set picnic shelter and move it. Also, my plans to hike extensively were ruined and we ended up going on a number of drives to break up the monotony of sitting in our trailer out of the constant rainfall.
The rain did muck up most of our vacation, but we still had a great time. My one bit of advice from this trip is to avoid site #16 if heavy rain is in the forecast.
