Traverse City is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Grand Traverse County, although a small portion extends into Leelanau County. It is the largest city in the 21-county Northern Michigan region. The population was 14,674 at the 2010 census, with 143,372 in the Traverse City micropolitan area. The Traverse City area is the largest producer of tart cherries in the United States.     The Dennos Museum Center, located in Traverse City, Michigan is a museum of fine art affiliated with Northwestern Michigan College . The museum opened in 1991, and consists of three changing exhibit galleries and a sculpture court, an Interactive Discovery Gallery for children and adults, and the Inuit Gallery. The museum has a permanent collection of over 2,000 works, over half of which are Inuit prints and sculpture. It has three exhibition galleries that cover 8,000 square feet .
