Where the Dunes Meet the Sea | Swakopmund & Cape Cross
Namibia's coastline is magnificent, where the desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. Driving the coastline of Namibia really puts into perspective just how desolate this country is. You can go kilometers without seeing another car, person, or house. Swakopmund is a German established town that has a deep history, good eats and flamingos nearby. Driving north you will come upon Cape Cross, which is the only place in the world that you can find the Cape Fur Seal and there are PLENTY of them!
This video shows a few stops along our self drive tour of Namibia traveling from Swakopmund to Cape Cross.

Namibia Part9: Palmwag Concession & Lodge, Sundowner Safari
Day 12 of our Safari: Today we are heading to the Palmwag Lodge, returning to luxury life. Now the tent-safari is over. At 12:00 we arrive in the Lodge. Most of the members of our group are very lucky - now they have a swiming pool for relaxing, maybe a bit decadent in a desert without water.
Anyway, we decide to attend a Sundowner-Safari at 3 pm, very romantic and magic.
At night we have a visitor in the Lodge - an enomous elefant - which we missed during the last days.

This adventure continues our 4 Wheel drive in northwest Namibia. In this episode Ben and I are going to continue to show you how to explore Namibia independently.
Day 14 starts somewhere near the exclusively private Serra Cafema Resort that we dropped into yesterday unannounced.
We've broken camp and ready to plan the next leg. We're heading west towards the Skeleton Coast NP.
The leaking left rear tire has finally given up and gone flat.
I recognize this guy from Zyles Pass. It's one of Andrew Rogers' Men of Kaokoland.
A stone man welded with metal and a tip box for good luck.
Obviously this place is called Green Drum. Who brings a computer out here? You're supposed to self-register.
Microsoft XP, Ctrl Alt Delete Lets us the backup manual method.
So we have a very hostile environment, low fuel, one spare tire and government discouragement. So I think we should continue this expedition in the other direction.
Namibia is certainly a harsh mistress. It's all thorns. Can easily puncture a tire. Ben is trying to find his way into the Hoarusib River. Snake, lion & elephant country. We camp here tonight.
Ben finally gives up and we find a campsite next to the river.
Today, all the way down south, in and out of the park through the Khumib and into the Koigab river.
Day 15 starts next to the Hoarusib River.
Now the biggest one last. Yeah but we're almost back. Good thing we're in the middle of nowhere. Getting low on fuel and no reserve in the jerry cans.
Last night we plenty of ticks in the car. They're your buddies, not mine.
Ben hears a rattle and has to check it out.
Back out the 'door' of the Hoanib River. This time we turn North rather than south. And what a difference two weeks can make.
Time to find a place to camp. From the Khumib River, 60km down to the Hoanib River,
we took a little detour off the Hoanib to the north and it actually turned out to be much nicer.

Namibia, Palmwag Lodge Oasis, Episode 102
Sometimes a mirage of palm trees and a resort in the middle of a desert can come true. I want a shower and warm beer please. This a small part of our road trip across Southern Africa. A trip from Tanzania and the Indian Ocean to the Atlantic off the coast of Namibia.

Palmwag Lodge Video Details
Near day’s end we spy an oasis. It’s the Palmwag Lodge. Another desert high-end lodge with a pool that provides camping for $10 pp. A shower, fire and a warm beer were on my agenda.
Palwag is also one of only two places that provide fuel in a 300 km radius. But supply is not guaranteed so before heading off-road for a next week we fill up the car and 4 jerry cans.
The next day we went north up the main gravel road to Sesfontein and the location of the old German fort converted into a lodge. Fort Sesfontein was erected in 1896 as a police outpost by Schutztruppe soldiers of Imperial Germany. It was abandoned in 1914 and fell into disrepair soon thereafter. The German police officers manned the fort to combat weapons smuggling and elephant and rhino poaching.
Our target that day was a turn-off to a Hoanib dry river just north of Sesfontein.
