This is Part 2 from my 3 part web series across Manipur. In this part, I will be exploring Ukrul town which is known as a land of beautiful mountains :) I also took a trek to the famous Shirui Peak and the views from the top were breathtaking :)

Manipur is a state in Northeast India, with the city of Imphal as its capital. It is bounded by Nagaland to the north, Mizoram to the south, and Assam to the west; Burma (Myanmar) lies to its east. The state covers an area of 22,327 square kilometres (8,621 sq mi) and has a population of almost 3 million, including the Meitei, who are the majority group in the state, Loi, Yaithibi, Kuki and Naga peoples, who speak a variety of Sino-Tibetan languages. Manipur has been at the crossroads of Asian economic and cultural exchange for more than 2,500 years. It has long connected the Indian subcontinent to Southeast Asia and China, enabling migration of people, cultures, and religions.

Ukhrul is the highest hill station of Manipur. It is located at a distance of about 83 kilometers to the east of Imphal. The district is inhabited by the Tangkhul Nagas- the colorful warrior tribe, the Kukis and the Angamis. The Tangkhul Nagas are considered one of the oldest major tribes of Manipur.
Manipur celebrated its State Flower at Ukhrul District from May 16-20,2017. The festival featured demonstrations of the age-old traditions and culture of the inhabitants of the district of Ukhrul. The festival is being organized during the month of May keeping in mind the peak blooming season of the flower.

My Meghalaya journey starts from Guwahati where I meet my friend Ankit ( who was joining me for the trip. We drove down till Shillong and explored the city and also the famous police Bazaar. On the way, we had stopped to capture the beautiful Umiam Lake :)

Meghalaya is a state in Northeast India. The name means the abode of clouds in Sanskrit. The population of Meghalaya as of 2016 is estimated to be 3,211,474.
The state is the wettest region of India, recording an average of 12,000 mm (470 in) of rain a year. About 70% of the state is forested. The Meghalaya subtropical forests ecoregion encompasses the state; its mountain forests are distinct from the lowland tropical forests to the north and south.
