Oberammergau, Germany - a visit via the German Alpine Road (Deutsche Alpenstrasse)
After touring the wonderful Romantic Road (Romantische Strasse), we left Füssen, Germany and began our German Alpine Road (Deutsche Alpenstrasse) drive that would take us all the way through Bavaria to the end at the Austrian border. One of our major stops was the historic town of Oberammergau, known for doing the famous Passion Play every ten years, where the whole town gets involved in presenting the play.
Because we were on a strict time schedule, we were only able to stop for about 4 hours there, but we saw so much during that time, as you'll see here. Absolutely charming town with the well-known murals adorning most buildings you see there.
As always, Ed does most of the narration that you hear, as well as most of the video camera work; I do the majority of the still photos and then edit and put the final product together to upload to You Tube.

Bavaria and the Passion Play town overview in Oberammergau touring from Munich, Germany!
I show you the beautiful area of Upper Bavaria, the roaming ground of the Fairy Tale King, Ludwig II. This, arguable, is the most famous Passion Play in the world which takes place every 10 years. The next showing is 2020. The town vowed as a whole to do a Passion Play (showing the last week of the life of Jesus Christ) if God would save them from the Plague. The plague stopped in their town and in 1634 they did their first play in the graveyard of their departed loved ones. Since then, the tradition has continued until today. See the area and plan a trip if you wish. It is a beautiful corner of the world.

Luftlmalerei House Paintings in Oberammergau
The painting is most religious character in particularly involving figures of saints as well as manifold scenes all around the Passion Play theme in Oberammergau. In Southern Germany and Italy Lüftlmalerei is a handicraft method of wall-paintings originally applied for decorating the baroque facades. In 18th century the method began to become popular in the foothills region of the Alps, where wealthy traders or people peasants and craftsmen displayed their wealth by means of opulently painted facades. The Painting technique is to called Fresco Technique, the mineral basis of water colors are applied to wet freshly laid plaster. They become a fixed layer of color after colors dry, insoluble to water. The necessity to work quickly in the fresh air (Luft), led to the belief that the term Lüftlmalerei is some how connected to this particular method of painting. The famous town of Oberammergau also shows how inextricably linked a handicraft is to the history of its town. In principle a stroll through the town famed the world over for it passion play is almost like walking through a museum. The traditional painting are still stand with us, where we have lots of technology like computer printing etc etc, I love colors and art. Let see the some pictures which I collect from Flickr.com.
