Vacherie is an unincorporated community in St. James Parish, Louisiana, United States. The name of the place derives from the French word for cowshed. Near the community is the WCKW/KSTE-Tower, a guyed mast noted as one of the tallest such structures on Earth. The best known location in the community is the Oak Alley Plantation. There are several other historic plantations in the area: Laura, Desire, St. Joseph, and Felicity. The last two were combined in 1890. Vacherie was used as a filming location for the TV series True Detective.

Quercus virginiana, also known as the southern live oak, is an evergreen oak tree native to the southeastern United States. Though many other species are loosely called live oak, the southern live oak is particularly iconic of the Old South. Many very large and old specimens of live oak can be found today in the deep southern United States.

St. Joseph Plantation is a historic plantation located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in the town of Vacherie, St. James Parish, Louisiana, United States of America. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. St. Joseph Plantation is located at 3535 Hwy 18 Vacherie, LA 70090, adjacent to Oak Alley Plantation and up-river from Laura Plantation. The plantation was first owned by Josephine Aime Ferry in 1830, but the Ferry family sold it to Joseph Waguespack in 1877 . In 1890 Saturnine Waguespack merged St. Joseph Plantation with Felicity Plantation to form the St. Joseph Plantation and Manufacturing Company. It is today maintained by descendants of the Waguespack and Simon families.

Destrehan is a census-designated place in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 11,535 at the 2010 census, an increase of 275 over the 2000 tabulation of 11,260. The community is named after Jean Noël Destréhan , who was twice President of the Orleans Territory's legislative council during his service there in 1806 and 1811. He was elected to the United States Senate when Louisiana became a state in 1812, but he resigned after a month. He served in the Louisiana State Senate from 1812 to 1817.Destrehan Plantation, his former home, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Music background by The Assembly Kora Band's New Orleans World Fusion. The plantation is in St. John's Parish, Louisiana, and is on the banks of the Mississippi River. The style is Steamboat Gothic, and makes a very unusual look for antebellum plantation mansions. Imagery shot with a Nikon D800 camera, using a Sigma 10mm-20mm zoom lens. The extreme fisheye lens makes an unusual effect, especially when panning. The sill images were shot using a picture control setting of Vivid. The ADL setting was set to eliminate any harsh shadows and create a pleasing low shadow effect.
