10 Things to do in Valencia, Spain Travel Guide Video Transcript: (València)

Continuing our travels through Spain, our next stop was Valencia.

Located along the coast, Spain’s third-largest city is renowned for its mild climate, futuristic constructions and paella.

We’ll spent most of our time in Valencia was mostly spent eating, but when we weren’t restaurant hopping or snacking our way through markets, we were exploring the city on foot and the destination quickly rose to the top.

In this Valencia travel guide we’re going to take you guys on a tour of the city and show you some of the things you can do on your visit.

After lunch we were ready to go sightseeing around Valencia. Our first stop: the Silk Exchange.

We went on a walk around the Old Quarter without much of a plan in mind. We saw some street art browsed through a few shops, and randomly stumbled across the narrowest building in Europe - that’s the terracotta.

Since the tower was closed, we decided to stop by Horchateria Santa Catalina to try a drink that you either love or hate: horchata.
This cold milky-looking drink is made with chufas, better known as tiger nuts in English.

Our next attraction was Valencia Cathedral, which is home to a Holy Chalice that has been defended as the true Holy Grail.

If there’s one dish that we had to try in Valencia, it was paella. Many non-Spaniards view paella as Spain's national dish, but Spaniards will tell you this is a regional Valencian dish.

The City of Arts and Sciences, is a cultural and architectural complex that looks quite spacey and futuristic.

The complex itself is made up of various structures including a domed-glass garden that’s filled with palm trees, the planetarium, an interactive science museum, an aquarium, an opera house, and a plaza designed to hold concerts and sporting events and Turia Park.

But paella wasn’t all we had at the restaurant. We also ordered fideuá.

We had a food adventure in Valencia’s Central Market. Although this is primarily a place to buy your fresh fish, vegetables, meat, and fruit, you can also find some stands that sell smaller snacks and traditional Spanish dishes.

I flew down to Spain in December for 2 weeks to hang out with my friend Greg and his girlfriend Nellie. At the end of my trip we took a train to Valencia and spent a weekend there exploring all the things to do in Valencia and based ourself in a stylish Apartment we rented via AirBnB.

After renting bikes we cycled into the old town and visited the Mercado Central, the Cathedral of Valencia and enjoyed a long ride down the Jardin del Turia to the port and the wide beach. Of course we couldn’t miss out on the typical Paella accompanied by a cold beer.

We finished of our stay with a visit to the City of Arts and Sciences, a futuristic complex full of interesting architecture - the perfect spot to photograph the sunset!

City of Arts and Sciences
An entertainment-based cultural and architectural complex. The most important modern tourist destination in the city. Situated at the end of the former riverbed of the river Turia.

Llotja de la Seda
A late Valencian Gothic style civil building. Built between 1482 and 1548. One of the principal tourist attractions in the city. UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.

Valencia Bioparc
A 10-hectare (25-acre) zoo. Has a large collection of African fauna. The concept of the zoo consists of immersing visitors into the animals' habitat and not vice versa.

Mercado Central
A public market. It is generally considered one of the oldest European markets still running. A popular location for tourists and locals alike.

L'Oceanogràfic
An oceanarium situated in the east of the city. Opened on 14 February 2003. The largest complex of its type in Europe. There are 45,000 animals of 500 different species including fish, mammals, birds, reptiles and invertebrates.

Torres de Serranos
One of the twelve gates that were found along the old medieval city wall. Considered one of Valencia's most iconic buildings and is one of the best conserved monuments in the city.

Plaza de Toros de Valencia
A bullring currently used for bull fighting. The stadium holds 10,500 people since 2010. It was built in 1841. Situated next to the North Station. Was built between 1850 and 1860. The architect was Sebastian Monleon.

Ibiza
An island in the Mediterranean Sea, 79 kilometres (49 miles) off the coast of the city. Well known for its summer club scene which attracts very large numbers of tourists.

Valencia Cathedral
A Roman Catholic parish church. Was consecrated in 1238 by the first bishop of Valencia after the Reconquista, Pere d'Albalat. One of the supposed Holy Chalices in the world is revered in one of this cathedral's chapels.

Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe
An important visitor attraction. Opened on 13 November 2000. It is over 40,000 square meters in area and resembles the skeleton of a whale. Everything in the museum is graphically displayed.

Valencia, Spain is definitely one of the best cities in Europe for a weekend getaway!

In Jun Aansh and I wanted to get away from Paris for a little bit and we spontaneously booked a trip to Valencia. Non of us have ever been to Valencia before and we didn't really know what to expect. To our surprise, we found ot that even thought Valencia is definitely not the most popular tourist destination in Spain, it's actually such a beautiful and interesting city! I would describe Valencia, as the perfect mix between city trip and beach getaway! and if any of you is looking for a less-torusity place to travel in Europe, Valencia is definitely the place!
