Valras Plage Holiday Guide | South France Holiday Villas
Read the full article on
Valras is a bustling and typical southern French seaside resort. With its port, long sandy beach, promenade and diverse activities, it makes an excellent base for a summer holiday.
Kids love Valras Plage as the promenade seems to have been built specially for them; rollerblading along its flat surface with a stop-off at the little adventure park towards the marina is great fun. Then a stroll around the marina itself to see the fishing and numerous pleasure boats and, in the summer, there is usually a fairground (fete foraine) with tall toboggans and bumper cars. For the smaller kiddies, there is the lady who hires out little pony tricycles...

day at the beach Valras Plage sailing school jet ski fail summer crowds 11 August 2015
An early morning walk on the beach at Valras Plage in the Herault region, Languedoc-Rousillon, France.
All life really is at the beach. Fishing. Live crabs. A sailing and canoe school. Jet ski hire, and when you turn too fast - jet ski fail! Snorkeling. Paddle boards. Aerobics classes on sand and in the Mediterranean. And families by the hundred soaking up the sun.
This short video gives a pretty good idea how life unfolds on the beach during a typical morning in high season.
We begin with breakfast on the sea wall in Valras, of coffee and pastries from one of the bakeries in town, then walk along the beach towards the mouth of the river Aude.
Even in high season the early part of the morning gives us the French-Mediterranean coast at its best. When we start out it feels like 4 miles of private beach.
It's quiet. Joggers and cyclists have the promenade to themselves. Boys of all ages fish in the high tide, and the uncrowded water is a playground for sports enthusiasts of all ages and styles. Fresh on the scene this year is a group that marches the same tide-line as us, but IN the water. A sailing school hosts crowds of English school children for what seems like the whole summer, and 5 minutes further away something slightly more commercial offers short jet ski and banana boat rides to all comers.
The walk back, however, is like a time lapse from spring into summer. What started as empty sand transforms into a solid mass of families on holiday.
day at the beach Valras Plage South of France paddleboard jet ski canoe school holiday 7 July 2016
A morning walk on the beach at Valras Plage in the Herault department of the new Occitanie (formerly Languedoc-Rousillon) region of France.
This short video gives a pretty good idea of life at the beach on a bright morning in the calm just ahead of high season.
Even in high season at 9 am Valras-plage feels like 4 miles of private beach. By 10 am families begin to take up spots near the gentle, protected tideline. In early July this part of the French-Mediterranean holiday coast is still free of the high season crowds.
The uncrowded water is a playground for sports enthusiasts of all ages and styles. Fishermen of all ages are always present. Paddleboards are an ever more common sight. The water aerobics group that marches the tide-line hasn't quite reached high season numbers yet
Past the casino and the end of the developed residential area, a sailing school hosts crowds of school children for what seems like the whole summer, and 5 minutes further away something slightly more commercial offers short jet ski and banana boat rides to all comers.

Roquebrun Holiday Guide | South France Holiday Villas
Read the full article on
Picturesque Roquebrun is built onto a steep hillside, so exploring the village is an up and down experience. Perhaps it can be best appreciated from the extensive river beach on the other side of the Orb. The village dominates the view and you can sit in the shade of the trees, whilst the kids go paddling and contemplate which of the restaurants and bars could offer you the best lunch. Our favourite is Le Petit Nice, which is also the nickname that has been given to Roquebrun over the years.
