A Day in SAINT TROPEZ / feat. Pampelonne Beach / French Riviera
A Day in SAINT TROPEZ / feat. Pampelonne Beach / French Riviera, Cote d'Azur, France.
Going on a ferry ride from Nice to Saint Tropez. A small fishing village back in time, today St. Tropez is a stunning spot on the French Riviera where many rich and famous people spend their holidays. The place became popular with the movies starring Brigitte Bardot and is much associated with the movie star.
The video features a walk through the charming small streets and the marina promenade filled with luxurious, grand yachts and many cafes, restaurants, shops and people. Then taking a cab and going to the famous Pampelonne Beach where usually you can spot different celebrities / not in our case, we had a bad luck with stormy weather /. The taxi ride takes about 7-8 min. and costs 30 euro one way.

Villefranche & to Monaco
Today's adventure winds along the eastern shores of the Cote d'Azur where you will discover several small seaside towns and a tiny country with the world's richest inhabitants. The train can take you along most of today's route, but you will find it easier and more interesting to take the bus out and return back by train. Distances are short -- you could travel all the way from one end to the other, Nice to Menton, in 35 minutes by train, so the brief bus rides linking each place are easy to handle and will give you better access to some of the sights.
Begin at the main bus station of Nice, the Gare Routier, located a few blocks east of Place Massena along Boulevard Jean Jaures. Buses leave every 15 minutes, but you might take note of the bus schedules while here, or check on-line at rca.tm.fr. Plan on the 9:10am departure to get a good start on this action-packed day, which will deliver you in just 15 minutes to your first stop, Villefranche, providing a scenic ride along the way with views of the old port of Nice and passing coastal villas.
VILLEFRANCHE
The bus lets you off in the new part of Villefranche, which you don't need to see, so walk downhill towards the Café de la Paix (ask a local if in doubt), then take the steps leading down into the Old Town along Rue l'Eglise. The steps will lead you into a small pedestrian maze of alleys, with shops, galleries and cafes scattered everywhere. For general bearings just keep heading downhill, which leads you towards the waterfront in a few minutes. Along the way notice the arcaded street, Rue Obscure, a historic landmark one block inland from the marina, which is a picturesque boat harbor along the water's edge, lined with a row of outdoor restaurants.
This entire stroll can be done in 45 minutes if you just keep walking, or you could take 2 hours for a more thorough exploration of the side lanes and plazas. Villefranche is a popular cruise port as well, and it's only about 15 minutes away from Monaco, either by bus or by train, but there are a few other villages along the way worth visiting.
You now face the choice of either exploring the adjacent Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula, with its nature walk and impressive mansions, or moving further along the coast.
Places to see in ( Cavalaire Sur Mer - France )
Places to see in ( Cavalaire Sur Mer - France )
Cavalaire-sur-Mer is the most southerly coastal resort of the Var department in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Located behind a magnificent beach which boasts 3 kilometres of fine white sand and azure blue waters, it enjoys an exceptional climate with 300 days of sunshine per year and is a popular family destination. Framed by Cap Cavalaire to the west and Cap Lardier to the east with the green Pradels Mountains in the distance, this is one of the most picturesque towns on the Riviera coast. There are approximately 6,500 residents in this charming old fishing town famous for its Provençal traditions and busy marina.
Cavalaire-sur-Mer is an attractive coastal resort, developed around a three kilometre long sandy beach on the Cote d’Azur south-east of Saint-Tropez and in the Var department of Provence. A family-focussed resort, Cavalaire is officially listed as a 'Famille Plus' destination, awarded to resorts with a focus on providing appropriate activities, enhanced safety, reduced admission prices for children etc.
Above all it is the lively and friendly atmosphere that attracts visitors to Cavalaire, and that ensures the ongoing popularity of the resort. The long sandy beach is of course the main attraction in Cavalaire-sur-Mer, and there are also smaller beaches and coves on the coast just outside the main resort such as Le Dattier a little way to the south-west. There is also a free shuttle bus that follows behind the beach so you can quickly reach less crowded areas of the beach.
If you have the energy to explore a little there is a very picturesque beach to the south-west of the town centre called the Plage de Bonporteau that involves some effort to reach but as a result is quieter than the main beaches. The challenge in parking and the steep walk to the beach are compensated by views across to the Iles-Hyeres!
Particularly renowned for its water-sports, the resort of Cavalaire-sur-Mer is a favourite Jet Ski training venue and host to the 'Jet Game' competition in September every year. Sailing, catamaran, windsurfing and motor boats are also very well catered for, while the sea-bed is also particularly interesting here making it an excellent spot for scuba diving.
You wil also enjoy visiting the port: the port in Cavalaire is one of the most-sheltered and best-equipped of the Cote d’Azur and attracts a good number of visitors. There is a wide range of restaurants around the port, and you can also see some traditional fishing boats in the port - these colourful boats are known as 'pointus'. Market day in Cavalaire-sur-Mer is every Wednesday morning on the Place Jean Moulin.
Cavalaire-sur-Mer is probably an ancient Phoenician colony of the name of Heracles Caccabaria. There are also remains of a Gallo-Roman occupation in Pardigon. The town was detached from Gassin in 1929. The village is located on the route of the old railway Saint Raphael–Toulon (sometimes called Train Pignes), now defunct. However, the location of the old railway line can be noted and its path followed (and in much of the coast from Le Lavandou to St. Raphael, Cavalaire is even a Road Train Pignes).

Places to see in ( Villefranche sur Mer - France )
Places to see in ( Villefranche sur Mer - France )
From the main road above, you can look down across the red tile roofs of the old town, with the distinctive church and bell tower in the center. Like the medieval villages of the back country, the narrow cobblestone and bricked streets slope steeply down (in this case towards the sea) or traverse along the slope, with vaulted passages beneath the houses. There's quite a medieval feeling here, with just the many little restaurants to remind you you're in tourist country. There are also quiet little squares, like the Place Félix Poullan beside the church, and the Place de l'Eglise just below, with a bench circling a beautiful big tree.
The most extreme example we've seen anywhere of a vaulted passage is the Rue Obscura, a street about a block in from the seafront that's completely covered for about half its length. Lighted only by white, wire-gridded lamps in the roof, the obscure street reminds you of the days when the town's population sheltered here from bombardments. Cross streets open out onto the sunny upper village or the even brighter seafront below.
The focal point of Villefranche-sur-Mer is the quai, where a line of terrace café-restaurants face the yacht harbor and out across the blue Mediterranean, backed the lovely village houses. Villefranche was once a fishing village attached to the town of Nice, and you can sometimes see some of the little pointu fishing boats in the harbor. Robert De Niro sat at one of these cafés, as Sam in the movie Ronin (1998), amidst action and car chases across the South of France.
The 16th-century military fortress, Citadelle Saint-Elme, sits at the south edge of Villefranche-sur-Mer, in easy walking distance from the port. The citadel was built in 1557 to protect the this port as well as the towns along this part of the Mediterranean. The fortress worked in conjunction with Fort Mont Alban (on the hilltop between Villefranche-sur-Mer and Nice), a defensive tower at Saint Jean-Cap-Ferrat, and the military battery at Beaulieu-sur-Mer. Citadelle Saint-Elme was occupied by the famous French mountain troups, Chasseurs Alpins until 1958. The site now hosts the Town Hall (Mairie) and some museums. Entry to the site is free, to walk around the fortified interior, visit the museums, and a very nice and shady park.

Places to see in ( Caen - France )
Places to see in ( Caen - France )
Caen is a port city and capital of the department of Calvados in northern France's Normandy region. Its center features the Château de Caen, a circa-1060 castle built by William the Conqueror. It stands on a hill flanked by the Romanesque abbeys of Saint-Étienne and Sainte-Trinité, which date from the same period. The multimedia museum Le Mémorial is devoted to World War II and the 1944 Battle of Normandy.
Caen is located 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) inland from the English Channel, two hours north-west of Paris, and connected to the south of England by the Caen-(Ouistreham)-Portsmouth ferry route. Caen is located in the centre of its northern region, and it is a centre of political, economic and cultural power. Located a few miles from the coast, the landing beaches, the bustling resorts of Deauville and Cabourg, Norman Switzerland and Pays d'Auge, Caen is often considered the archetype of Normandy.
Caen is known for its historical buildings built during the reign of William the Conqueror, who was buried there, and for the Battle for Caen—heavy fighting that took place in and around Caen during the Battle of Normandy in 1944, destroying much of the city. The city has now preserved the memory by erecting a memorial and a museum dedicated to peace, the Memorial de Caen.
The castle, Château de Caen, built circa 1060 by William the Conqueror, who successfully conquered England in 1066, is one of the largest medieval fortresses of Western Europe. In repentance for marrying his cousin Mathilda of Flanders, William ordered two abbeys to be built on the Pope's encouragement:
Eglise St.-Etienne, formerly the Abbaye aux Hommes (Men's Abbey). It was completed in 1063 and is dedicated to St Stephen. The current Hôtel de Ville (town hall) of Caen is built onto the South Transept of the building.
Eglise de la Ste.-Trinité, formerly the Abbaye aux Dames (Women's Abbey). It was completed in 1060 and is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The current seat of the regional council (conseil régional) of Basse-Normandie is nearby.
Other attractions in ( Caen - France ) such as :
Jardin botanique de Caen, a historic botanical garden
Church of Saint-Pierre
Mémorial pour la Paix (Memorial for Peace) built in 1988, charting the events leading up to and after D-Day. It is an emotional presentation inviting meditation on the thought of Elie Wiesel: Peace is not a gift from God to man, but a gift from man to himself. The Memorial for Peace also includes an exhibit of Nobel Peace Prize winners and another one on Conflict Resolution in different cultures.
Parc Festyland, an amusement park to the west of Caen in the nearby town of Carpiquet. The park receives 110,000 visitors every year.
Mondeville 2 is a regional shopping centre in adjoining Mondeville.
Caen has a recently built, controversial guided bus system—built by Bombardier Transportation and modelled on its Guided Light Transit technology—and a very efficient network of city buses, operated under the name Twisto. Caen - Carpiquet Airport is the biggest airport in Lower-Normandy considering the number of passengers that it serves every year. Caen is served by the small port of Ouistreham, lying at the mouth of the Caen Canal where it meets the English Channel. Caen is connected to the rest of France by motorways to Paris (A13), Brittany (A84) and soon to Le Mans (A88–A28). Although a fraction of what it used to be remains, Caen once boasted an extensive rail and tram network. From 1895 until 1936, the Compagnie des Tramways Electriques de Caen (Electrical Tramway Company of Caen) operated all around the city. Caen also had several main and branch railway lines linking Caen railway station to all parts of Normandy with lines to Paris, Vire, Flers, Cabourg, Houlgate, Deauville, Saint-Lô, Bayeux and Cherbourg. Now only the electrified line of Paris-Cherbourg, Caen-Le Mans and Caen-Rennes subsist with minimal services.
