Belogradchik Fortress, one of the best attractions in Bulgaria
The Belogradchik Fortress and Vidin, Bulgaria, 2017
The Belogradchik Fortress is situated at a distance of 1.5 km from the town of Belgradchik among the renowned Belogradchik rocks.
The fortress has existed since Roman times. In 1st – 3rd century AD the Romans built roads in the new provinces of the empire on the Balkan peninsula, as well as fortresses to guard them.
The mission of the Belogradchik Fortress was to control the road from the town of Ratsiaria (near the today’s village of Archar in the region of Vidin). The Romans constructed the highest part of the fortress, called The Citadel.
There are remains of another fortress at a distance of a few meters from it – Latin Stronghold, which served as an assisting fortification.
Upon the separation of the Roman Empire in 395 the Balkan lands entered within the borders of Byzantium. In the end of 7th century the Belogradchik Fortress fell within the territory of the newly created Bulgarian state.
During the time of Tsar Ivan Sratsimir (1356 – 1396) the fortress was broadened and fortified. In 1396 the Ottomans conquered it and later reconstructed it. Garrison for protection of the west part of the empire and for oppression of the Bulgarians’ revolts was built.
In 1850, when the Belogradchik Uprising was routed, its leaders were taken away through one of the fortress tunnels and beheaded. On this place today raises a monument of their heroism. In 1885 during the war between Serbia and Bulgaria (1885) the fortress was last used as a military installation. It was declared an architectural and constructional monument in Issue 41 of the State Gazette of 1965.
The Belogradchik Fortress has three yards separated from one another, the total area of which reaches 10 210 square meters, and one fortification. Even nowadays embrasures (openings) for guns and three bastions and embrasures for cannons can be seen on the fortress walls.
The highest point of the fortress, called First Slab, reveals a beautiful view towards the Balkan.
The region is very popular among the tourists because of the beauty of the Belogradchik rocks and the multiple historical landmarks.

Bulgaria Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Bulgaria.
Bulgaria is located in the extreme south east of Europe, a country of natural splendour, fairy-tale like villages, ancient ruins, and monasteries with remarkable frescos as well as a culture that is between both Orient and Occident. Sofia, the ‘wise woman’ and, since 1879, capital of the new Bulgaria, a city whose roots date back to the fifth century B.C. Once Thracians settled, then followed Romans, Goths, Huns and Ottomans. At the end of the nineteenth century the city’s appearance changed from Oriental to European into a dynamic metropolis. Sofia’s historic city centre features the most splendid sacred building in the Balkan Peninsula, the Aleksandâr Nevski Cathedral, a work of art of the Russian Orthodox religion that can accommodate a congregation of more than five thousand. Vidin is dominated by the Baba Vida Fortress whose impressive towers and bastion date back to the thirteenth century. From the banks of the Danube the north western entrances to the mediaeval realm were strictly controlled and the fortress protected it from invasion by ship. Varna is the biggest city on the Black Sea coast and is one of Europe’s oldest cities. The golden, shining domes of the impressive cathedral in the city centre are one of its main landmarks. The caves of western Rhodopes are the main destination for many of the region’s visitors, such as the Jagodina Cave that is ten kilometres long and extends up to five levels within the limestone mountains. It is the longest and deepest of the Rhodopes and its tunnels and huge galleries feature traces of prehistoric inhabitants. Bulgaria – on the border of both Occident and Orient - a country full of history and natural beauty with authentic culture and overwhelming hospitality. A colourful mixture of fascinating tribes with a large variety of tradition and, according to legend, a part of paradise that God gifted to the Bulgarian people!

Bulgaria: Come for a Visit - Return on Investment
Media Campaign Bulgaria
Bulgaria -- come for a visit, return on investment
In March 2013 InvestBulgaria agency has launched a global campaign promoting the investment benefits that Bulgaria offers. The campaign builds on simple, however not well known facts about the benefits and the incentives that the country offers to the investors. Low tax burden, qualified workforce, low operational costs, strategic location, stable fiscal and economic policies, moderate climate, preserved nature -- are just to name a few of them.
A modern infograhic style has been applied in series of print ads and internet banners, as well as in three TV spots. The ads have been published in the print and online editions of the leading global business media such as the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Economist, Bloomberg Buisinessweek, CNN, CNBC and Bloomberg TV.
The campaign is focused on presenting the specifics of the most attractive investment sectors in Bulgaria - BPO, IT, machine building and transport equipment, chemical industry, electronics and electrical, transportation and logistics, healthcare and health tourism, agriculture and food processing. Fifteen representatives of companies operating in these sectors shared their impressions on the investment attractiveness of Bulgaria in five short movies. Their positive attitude and optimistic view on Bulgaria proves the campaign slogan -- Come for a visit, return on investment.
The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
