  • 1. Danube Tower Vienna
    The Donauturm is a tower in Vienna, the tallest structure in Austria at 252 metres , and among the 75 tallest towers in the world. Opening in April 1964, the tower is located near the north bank of the Danube River in the district of Donaustadt. The hills Leopoldsberg and Kahlenberg are visible in the background.

  • 2. Flak tower Vienna
    Flak towers were eight complexes of large, above-ground, anti-aircraft gun blockhouse towers constructed by Nazi Germany in the cities of Berlin , Hamburg , and Vienna from 1940 onwards. Other cities that used flak towers included Stuttgart and Frankfurt. Smaller single-purpose flak towers were built at key outlying German strongpoints, such as at Angers in France, Helgoland in Germany and Trondheim, Norway. The towers were used by the Luftwaffe to defend against Allied air raids against these cities during World War II. They also served as air-raid shelters for tens of thousands of local civilians.

  • 6. Habsburgwarte Vienna
    The Habsburgwarte is a 27 metre-tall tower that stands on Hermannskogel hill in Vienna. It was built by architect Franz von Neumann to resemble a medieval tower. The construction of the Habsburgwarte was funded by the Österreichische Touristenklub to mark the Emperor Franz Joseph I’s 40th jubilee in 1888. It was completed in 1889. In 1972, the tower was listed. Today, it is used as a lookout. On weekends in summer, the Austrian Tourist Club opens the tower to members of the public for an entrance fee. In 1892, the Militärgeographisches Institut of Austria-Hungary specified the Habsburgwarte as kilometre zero. A plaque on the viewing platform records this fact.
