Some more about Madrid:
Madrid Madrid's Prado museum is one of the top art galleries in the world, and the premier international showplace for Spanish art.
Conceived by Charles III as a center for the study of natural sciences, the neoclassical building was completed in 1785 by Juan de Villanueva. It was restored by Fernando VII and opened as a museum in 1819 after suffering damage at the hands of Napoleon's troops.
Like an 18th-century multiplex, the Prado is big and cannot be enjoyed on a single visit. New rooms have opened recently, and there's more expansion on the way. This picture palace houses about 7,000 paintings, of which an estimated 1,500 are on display at any one time. Museum highlights abound, but several of the paintings are must-sees.
Although he didn't hail from Madrid, the city has claimed Goya as one of its own, and he is represented in the Prado in a variety of moods. His great antiwar combination The 2nd and 3rd of May 1808 stands out, as do his enigmatic, Giaconda-like Maja Vestida and Maja Desnuda. His darker-themed paintings, such as Saturn Devouring his Son, are grotesque, disturbing masterpieces. The same could be said of Hieronymous Bosch's complex, surreal religious allegory The Garden of Earthly Delights. The Prado has a surprisingly large Bosch holding
In a more sober vein is Velazquez's masterpiece, Las Meninas, whose dizzying games with perspective make it one of the most technically accomplished paintings in history.
Trivia addicts might be interested to know that in 1996, an amateur nailed one of his own paintings to the wall alongside the greats, and no one noticed for two days. And, in 1922, Tony Leblanc, the '60s and '70s Spanish thesp who made a comeback in Santiago Segura's 1998 feature Torrente, el brazo tonto de la ley, was born inside the museum. At that time, Leblanc's mother was a housekeeper at the Prado.
The Prado forms part of a triangle of art galleries, all within walking distance, which includes the Reina Sofia, dedicated to modern art and home to Picasso's antiwar masterpiece Guernica, and the smaller but well-designed Thyssen Museum, opened in 1992.
Madrid is a city with a permanent hangover. If you begin business over dinner, you're likely to finish it at a bar or club over a cubata (coke and eight double whiskies, all in one shot).
Some tips: Write down your hotel address before clubbing; if a drink costs more than $12, you're not just paying for the drink; it is perfectly respectable to go up to people you don't know. Madrid is fast, young, if not particularly modern. But at least for Southern Europe, it's a step forward. The city's hot spots include:
Plaza de Colon, palacia real, Gran Via, Museo del Prado, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Basílica de San Francisco el Grande,Madrid Zoo, Madrid Arena, Casa de Campo, El Retiro, Paseo de la Castellana, Plaza Mayor, Puerta de Alcalá, Catedral de la Almudena, el rastro, san gines, El Oso y el Madroño

Places to see in ( Madrid - Spain ) Royal Botanic Garden
Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid is an 8 hectares botanical garden in Madrid. The public entrance is located at Plaza de Murillo, next to the Prado Museum. The garden was founded on October 17, 1755, by King Ferdinand VI, and installed in the Orchard of Migas Calientes, near what today is called Puerta de Hierro, on the banks of the Manzanares River. It contained more than 2,000 plants collected by José Quer y Martínez, botanist and surgeon.
In 1774 King Charles III ordered the garden moved to its current location on the Paseo del Prado. This new site opened in 1781. Inside an area defined by wrought iron fencing, the design by architects Francesco Sabatini and Juan de Villanueva organized the garden into three tiered terraces, arranging plants according to the method of Linnaeus. Its mission was not only to exhibit plants, but also to teach botany, promote expeditions for the discovery of new plant species and classify them. There was a particular interest in the botany of Spain's colonial possessions. The garden was greatly augmented by a collection of 10,000 plants brought to Spain by Alessandro Malaspina in 1794.
The Spanish War of Independence in 1808 caused the garden to be abandoned, but in 1857 director Mariano de la Paz Graëlls y de la Aguera revived it with a new greenhouse and refurbishment of the upper terrace. Under his leadership a zoo was created in the garden, but subsequently relocated to the Parque del Buen Retiro. Between 1880 and 1890 the garden suffered heavy losses, first losing 2 hectares (4.9 acres) to the Ministry of Agriculture in 1882, then losing 564 trees in 1886 to a cyclone.
Since 1939 the garden has been dependent on the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and in 1942 was declared Artistic Garden. In 1974, after decades of hardship and neglect, the garden was closed to the public for restoration work to its original plan. It reopened in 1981.
The herbarium is the largest in Spain and now contains over a million specimens from around the world. The oldest material consists of plants collected during scientific expeditions undertaken in the 18th and 19th centuries. As at 2016 the online herbarium's databases currently contain detailed information about all the specimens in the algae, bryophyte, lichen and fungi collections.

The Retiro Park (not to be confused with the Jardines del Buen Retiro ), popularly known as El Retiro, a park of 118 acres (1.18 km ² ) located in Madrid. It is one of the most significant places in the capital Spanish. The Retiro Park (officially Parque del Buen Retiro also Jardines del Buen Retiro or shortly El Retiro ) is a 1.4 km ² large park in the heart of Madrid. 17,500 park trees have been planted as part of a two-day civil action in the fall of 1979, young trees, spades and hoes were made available to the voluntary planting columns of the city administration.
Under the direction of architects Giovanni Battista Crescenzi and Alonso Carbonell several buildings including the Teatro del Buen Retiro, which hosted performances of Spanish dramatists were built Golden Age, including Calderon de la Barca and Lope de Vega. Endure even the Cason del Buen Retiro, Ballroom with ancient frescoes Lucas Jordan, and called Hall of Realms, a wing of the Buen Retiro Palace decorated with old paintings of Velázquez and Zurbarán, among others, and the gardens of possession real.
Throughout history, the set was modified, not always planned, which changed the appearance of the garden as the Parterre, designed during the reign of Philip V (1700-1746), the Royal Porcelain Factory of Buen Retiro in times of Carlos III (1759-1788) and the Astronomical Observatory, designed by Juan de Villanueva, reigning Carlos IV (1788-1808). King Carlos III was the first to allow citizens access to the enclosure, provided that meet the condition to be well groomed and dressed.
The Paseo de la Argentina del Retiro is popularly known as Paseo de las statues, as it is flanked by a series of them dedicated to the monarchs of Spain, sent to do the decoration Royal Palace of Madrid, during the reign of Fernando VI. At first they were intended to adorn the cornice of the palace.
The figures were made by various authors, under the direction of the court sculptors Juan Domingo Olivieri and Felipe de Castro. They came to stand on the ledge of the Royal Palace as can be seen in some engravings of the time, but the arrival of Carlos III in Madrid, the king gave the order to withdraw, he considered the overly ornate palace. For this reason, they were placed in different parts of the city ( Plaza de Oriente, El Retiro, Jardines de Sabatini ) and some were carried to other Spanish provinces.
It is undoubtedly the most outstanding building in the gardens. The Crystal Palace, along with the artificial lake was built in 1887. Both are born with an international vocation, during the Exhibition of the Philippine Islands, where they were released several flowers there. It was the Spanish response to the magnificent greenhouses English as the Palm House of Kew Gardens. Another attraction is the Palacio de Cristal, of the London Crystal Palace is modeled. This glass pavilion was built in 1887 by Ricardo Velázquez Bosco designed. In addition, interest is the Rosaleda del Retiro, a rose garden, which of D.Cecilio Rodríguez (former director of the Office of green space in the Madrid town hall) in the year 1915 has been created.
At the lake, at the foot of the Crystal Palace (there is a ladder that is submerged within it), you can find several copies of the bald cypress ( Taxodium distichum ), with the particularity rooted and submerged trunk. The building is surrounded by horse chestnut ( Aesculus hippocastanum ) of considerable size, which increase the atmosphere of romance of the century. For years contains temporary exhibitions of contemporary art.
A special feature is the statue of the Angel Caído (German: fallen angel ), one of the few sculptures depicting Lucifer, the (rather randomly) at an altitude of 666 m above sea level ( Alicante lies). The statue was in 1877 by the Madrid sculptor Ricardo Bellver created, where it extends from the poem Paradise Lost by John Milton was inspired. 1879 it was decided to set up the plant in the park, where the ensemble (with pedestal and fountain ) 1885 was inaugurated.
