I travelled from Padang, Indonesia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Then I met a friend who stays in KL for dinner. After that my journey continues. My flight to Osaka was really late at night. It was one of the most painful trips I’ve ever been.
This is my first time taking Air Asia to Japan; and since it was a budget airline, they don’t prepare blankets. I was freezing on the plane. So if you are travelling on an overnight long haul flights, definitely prepare your own blanket or dress accordingly.
After I landed in Japan, I went straight to Kyoto. I even got lost and took the wrong Shinkansen. It was quite embarrassing cause they kind of kicked me out of the Shinkansen.
Unlike Tokyo, getting around in Kyoto are mostly by bus. If you are going to take bus more than 3 times in a day, definitely look into getting the one day pass which cost around 600 yen.
You can get the pass from the vending machine (shown in the video) or ask directly from the bus driver before you alight from the bus.
Itinerary:
First day we went to do some Hanami, because just nice it was spring season.
Then we chilled at Stef’s uni, Ritsumeikan (not in the video) but it’s a great place to do some Hanami as well.
At night we went to Pontocho, which is where we met Diana and had dinner in one of the izakaya.
Second day we went to Philosopher’s Path, which is a great place for Hanami but we came late and there’s so many people, hence why I didn’t vlog. Because of that we decided to go to Kobe, which is only around an hour away from Kyoto.
We didn’t really know where to go, because it was such an impromptu trip. In the end we decided to go to Kitano-cho, because it was the closest and we need to be back to Kyoto at night.
Third day we went to Keage Incline. Another beautiful place for Cherry blossom viewing in Kyoto but we were late AGAIN, thanks to me. There were so many people, we even saw a few couples having their pre wedding shoot.
After that we went to explore the area, and came across the yosakoi dance festival and the food fair. We were so lucky, but unfortunately I do not know where this exactly is.
Forth day is my last day in Kyoto and head straight to Tokyo.
I hope you guys enjoy!

Cherry Blossom Festival Washington DC
For over a century, the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC have heralded the arrival of Spring. This year, the cherry blossoms take on special meaning in the wake of the overwhelming events in Japan.
3,000 cherry trees were a gift of friendship to the United States from Japan in 1912. Today, the trees are a symbol of hope and renewal as the U.S. responds to Japan's time of need.
Organizers of the festival held a vigil for victims of the earthquake and tsunami of March 11.
DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton said the cherry blossoms will be a reminder of Japan's resiliency. This year, the cherry blossoms will remind the world to stand for Japan, Norton said.
Japan Vlog #005 - Day 4 in Kyoto (Trip to Arashiyama & Nishiki Market)
Spending half day in Arashiyama.
Wake up early in the morning (5:30am) - prepare ourself - take public bus from Senbonmarutamachi Bus Stop to Nonomiya Bus Stop (about 28 mins to reach). I would recommend to take bus in Kyoto because bus can go almost every where with very little walk.
Visit:
1. Bamboo Grove
2. Tenryuji Temple (天龍寺) 8:30am - 5:30pm
3. Togetsukyo Bridge
4. Arashiyama Park
Eat in Arashiyama:
1. 嵯峨豆腐三忠
2. Unagi Hirokawa (廣川)
Back to Central Kyoto. Take bus from Arashiyama Park to Nishiki Market. Accidentally found Nanaya Matcha while walking to Nishiki Market. We don't plan it (because we din't know) but we found it, means we must try on it.
Eat:
1. Nanaya Matcha (10am - 6pm)
2. Nishiki Market (9:30am - 6pm)
3. 串焼 満天 (weekday 5:30pm - 11pm, weekend 5pm - 11pm)
** Gyoza Chaochao Sanjo-Kiyamachi (weekday 5pm - 2am, Sat 2am - 2pm, Sun 2pm - 12am), try to avoid dinner time
